Is anyone anticipating the new Black and White pokeymans? I'm not a drooling fanatic or anything, but I enjoy the games (and chatting with my students about them), and I recently started Heart Gold. Anyone up for trading or battling?
Lately there's been a pokeyman rpg in the works on 4chan, and it actually looks pretty interesting. The playable beta should be out later in the summer, and I'm looking forward to submitting my players back home to it.
I really wish I had a 2nd DS to trade with myself! haha

So, I hear you like Mudkips?
Seriously, I havent played Pokemon back since the first edition of the game. I used to collect the trading cards though. I still have a couple of full sets back in the UK somewhere.
As for a pokemon roleplaying game? Do you play as trainers or pokemon? I cant imagine rolling up a Pikachu, and there will always be someone trying to powergame by giving their Charizard water powers.
Seems fun though

may i be the first to point out that this is a wierd thread?
not that I put myself above a bit of ポケ-action. I happen to have a complete set of the original cards nestling in my big box o gamey stuff, alongside the (exponentially larger) pile of Magic cards I have gathering dust in there. It was a fun game. I even played the original gameboy game (um, the blue one, i think.)

Awesome, a successful but weird thread!
Yeah, actually I started my pokecareer on Yellow on the GB Color when I was a freshman in college. Man, that was so long ago.
I hadnt touched it since then until Diamond and Pearl came out, then I played both of those over here. It was good Japanese practice and a lot of fun. But it seems harder and harder to get people into the game to trade with as I get older. WHO KNEW?! haha
But in the rpg, you play a trainer, of which there are a variety of types: do you specialize in breeding pokemon to bring out the best in a breed, or are you a martial artist that relies more on your own abilities than your pokemon's? Or perhaps you're an ace trainer that is able to simply train your favorite pokemons into elite fighting machines. There have been a bunch of threads of different settings for the rpg, like a WWII setting where French freedom fighters are using pokemon to beat the Nazis out of their country, etc. It's pretty awesome!

haha!
The piece of short fiction that was posted involved a group of rebels throwing those self-destructing orb type pokemon into a nazi parade, and they were really sad that they had to abandon their pokemen, but they knew that they would give their lives gladly, or something to that effect. I could totally see a more serious campaign being run with some rpg rules, maybe even in like a wild west sort of setting... hmmmm....

I brought up the prospect of a Pokemon:Tabletop Adventures game the session after I decided I wanted to do Evangelion. No one was even remotely interested, which is a shame. There are a lot of good games I'd heard from 4chan that I want to try out, chief among them PTA and MaidRPG. I wish we had longer sessions and more availability.

PTA is good fun, if everybody's on board for the hippy narrative mechanics.
I haven't tried Maid, but I have been itching to try Yuuyake Koyake - even got it mostly translated.
Feel free to call me Dave!

I downloaded the PTA rules and everything is a mess. I wouldn't want to play in a game of it until it's all straightened out. To be honest, most of the games they rave about on 4chan are too GRIMDARK for me. It seems like everything gets the 40k treatment, and I'm not interested.
I too wish we had more sessions and better availability, but there are only so many days in a week! It's a shame =( At least when I go home, I ought to be in the minority as a DM... haha

I wouldnt care which I was, a DM or a player, if we could play some of the games brought up in /tg/. I would love to play in PTA, or VeloCITY.
