Liquid Green Stuff

Yes, you read the title right. Green Stuff now comes in a liquid form. (The more cynical amongst you may suspect that this is their solution to the bubbles/gaps in finecast models and you wouldnt be wrong).

I was at Ikeda san's place today and he was showing it to me. It comes in a standard citadel paint pot and looks like a very thick paint. He had been playing around with it (and I've seen a couple of online reviews) and it can be mixed with water to make it go on like a paint. A couple of thin coats of the stuff will fill gaps in models and hide those unsightly seams where the parts join together.

Needless to say I bought a pot (350 yen). As and when I actually get round to using it, I will post some pictures up here.

To summarise (2nd hand info, granted)

1) As Prim described.
2) Definitely a finecast crutch
3) if you water it down it doesnt actually fill any gaps, as it shrinks too much when it dries.
4) If you have a teeny tiny gap, you can use it. But then, you can also use superglue and baking powder.
5) If you have an irregular surface, you can use it, but then, you can also use a miliput wash

all in all, not the worlds most useful product. But hey, it says "citadel" on the label. It's bound to sell!

5) Yeah, but I cant buy miliput in nagoya and any money I spend at maelstrom/wayland is going on models. This stuff is available now at Ikeda's shop where I was today.

*shrug* I tend to keep my interweb wanderings to myself, because if I posted up every interesting thing I read on CMoN I'd be posting here all bloody night.

Fr example - do you care that Cassar has been working on a Sarpedon bigature? Probly not, but I find the whole process fascinating. It's hard to tell what folks want to know, but didnt/want to know and already know/ dont know and dont care about/ do know and dont care about.

So I keep my "hey look new stuff" posts to a minimum.

As a rule, I generally post stuff that is either A) probably going to appeal to someone else on the forum somewhere or B) which I think folks should be interested in, they just dont know it yet. Perhaps if more people knew who Cassar is, or who Sarpedon is, or for that matter what a bigature is, it may be worth posting.

Regardless, I have been playing about with my new liquid green stuff in an effort to figure it out. Luckily for me, Ikeda-san sold me an IG Manticore which handily had a couple of small gaps to fill. Yay for commerce!

Here is the section of one of the Manticore's big nasty rockets. (24"-120", S10, AP4, Ordnance, Barrage - D3, Large Blast)


Two of the rockets had this problem, so I did them both with LGS.

On one of the rockets, I just applied it neat as M_i_J suggested. LGS has the consistency of Marmite (Vegemite to those of you from down under, or very gooey Peanut Butter from those of you with a more American upbringing). On the other, I first mixed a teeny tiny drop of water in with the LGS to give it more of a foundation paint consistency.

Here are the results.

The top one is undiluted, the bottom is with the water. Bearing in mind that this is my first time to use this stuff of course.

The neat LGS dried with quite a rough finish, the water/LGS mix came out a lot smoother. It dries about as quickly as paint and after 2 thin coats on each, both sections look a bit better and are ready for painting. I would definitely recommend adding a little water (just a tiny drop) to the LGS, and doing 2 or 3 thin coats on smaller gaps. On a bigger gap, you can do the first layer with pure LGS and the second coat with water to smooth it out a bit.

Or you can pour baking powder all over your room.

I got ordered by my friends to bring 5 pots of MR surface 1000 back to Sweden. I haven't tested it yet because I need stronger stuff than water to clean the brush.

Glad to hear that you made it back safely. It must be a shock to suddenly have to do a full time job again. Good luck in the tournament.
