Today I finished of an Infinity model for Miggy Smallz to use in an RPG.
Image
It's a little dark, so it's hard to make out the helmet details. Sorry.

Same model from the side/back.

And I've almost finished off a squad of WW2 Russians. Hopefully I will be able to get them finished by tomorrow night.
And now I am off to bed. :D

@oprim - difficult to comment. Pics are very dark, so cant see much. Gomen.

@all - Ive been stowed wi work of late, but having pondered it a bit I have also decided that Im just not feeling very hound-of-scathachy at the mo. So, I decided to start a smaller, simpler mini. It's on my WIP on CMON...

Sorry 'bout that. I had just finished and wanted to get the piccy taken before I went to bed. The model is now with it's new owner who seemed pretty happy with it.

So no Hound of #sound of clearing your throat# then? Thats kind of a shame, but fair do's. It is, after all, your free time that you are dedicating to it and if you're not in the mood then it's probably best to wait until the muse takes you.

I've been busy painting this month.
Some 28mm WW2 Russians

I think I may need to go back over the eyes of a couple of them. (Stooopid high res camera pointing out all my mistakes and imperfections), but overall I'm kinda happy with them. They were fairly quick to do and look halfway decent IMHO. I'm sure that the WW2 experts round here will find something to pick fault with, but I really dont care that much. They look close enough to play with and thats what I was shooting for. :D

looks fine to me, altho I'm hardly a WW2 expert.

I did a smidge of painting on Joe today.

As I mention at the bottom of my last post - what do folks think about the contrast situation? Should I be shading stuff more? My instincts say "hell yes" but I'm worried it'll just make everything look the same colour.

I generally like heavily-shaded work, as long as its done smoothly.

Cheers, me neither.

As for Joe, hmm, the skin looks waaay to pale at the moment, almost like an albino. You definitely want to get a bit more shading in there. As you are working in a monochrome palette of course everything is going to look the same colour, :D but I do think that you could darken up the trousers and the flesh a bit more. Get the darkest skin tones up to where the trousers are now. The trousers up to the boots level and the boots darkened up a bit more so that they are closer to the jacket since black leather boots do look similar to black leather jackets (assuming thats what you were aiming for). You can then highlight the skin and what-not to taste.
Altho I'm hardly a monochrome dark future hive ganger expert. :D :D :D

You may also want to play with textures; a shiny leather jacket will have sharper, more "abrupt" highlights than fabric, and metals will be sharper still.

The turqouise isn't doing it for me, though. I'm not a fan of "show-off" effects at the best of times, but I think sepia tones would look better than turquoise. It's your miniature, though.

Finish it off with the more "subtle" shading and highlighting. You can always go back and add more contrast later, once you see the whole thing together. Having said that, film noir and black and white photography is all about strong contrast between light and dark.

*edit* the white is for future SENMM, it's not going to stay that way. There'll be a lot more of it over the next few painting sessions, too.
