Wood Elf Works-in-Progress

Post by Tenorikuma » Sat Dec 03, 2011 10:47 am

I think I've got my colour scheme locked in now. Making Wood Elves green may seem a little conventional, but with so many other nice autumn and winter-themed armies being done by other players, I thought something more spring-like was in order.

This glade guardsman isn't quite finished. I haven't decided if I should attempt doing his eyes.

I'd suggest painting it, maybe a blue color or something that stands out in contrast. Right now the face looks a bit too dark. overall very nice

That looks awesome. Very impressive indeed.
Eyes can be a tricky thing, done right they can really bring a model to life and provide a lot of character. Done wrong they can change your nicely painted mini into a googly-eyed monstrosity.
At this scale, it isnt necessary to paint them, but it would be worth doing a few test runs first to see what you think before trying it on a painted model.

That is some seriously nice highlighting/blending youve got going on there, especially for what is basically a rank and file mini. My hat's off to you for putting that much detail onto a fantasy army mini. Are you going to be bringing some of these chaps tomorrow?

I say leave the eyes, btw. The helmet means you'd never see em anyway. Save that stuff for character models.

Well, I've spent way too long on him. I'm going to have to work out a system for painting my army in stages so they all have some colour on them before I try perfecting each model.

I'll probably bring my Wild Rider horses to paint tomorrow. They have base coats and are ready for armour and detail painting.

Guardsman finished, colour scheme finalized. Time to start base-coating in batches!

Love the painting, though I do wish he was holding a spiked Blood Bowl ball instead of a bow ;)

Thanks for the nice comments so far.

I got a small studio photography booth for Christmas, so I put it to use today with the first three completely painted Wild Riders.
