Painting goals: I`ve got just a 3-4 things left and I`ll have over 100 points of Warmachine (Cygnar) done (never to buy/paint anymore! - I sound like someone who is trying to quit smoking). Then I`m going to charge through about the same number of Hordes models - Trollbloods!!! which will keep my pallet full for the rest of the summer and beyond. "New" and updated Blood Angels are being put on hold because everyone is getting excited by PP games around here. :)

Well, after a week of doing nothing, I finally forced myself to do some work today and sat down with my Malifaux Death Marshals.
Usually I dont like painting on metal, but these guys have been fun to work on so far. I'm happy with how the jeans came out (Space Wolves Grey followed by 2 coats of Asurmen Blue). I am planning on doing all the accessories like gun belts in Snakebite Leather and the weapons in Boltgun Metal. I'm just wondering what colours to use for the boots?

I hate white basecoats. Thats why my Death Marshals were based in black.
My biggest problem with white is that if you miss a bit it stands out like a sore thumb and the model looks messy if all the colours dont meet up nicely. With black, any spots you miss just look like shadow.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. All the models were based in black and I have been painting them using standard citadel colours. The base coat is plain old tamiya matt black spray.

I think what the admiral's getting at is that there are a couple of white looking bits. Particularly in the flash pic, i can totally see why the ad. would assume a white base coat. However, the later pics show that its just the flash reflecting off the slight gloss in the paint.

re. the white bits (eye-bandage thinger and the strap on the sword. This is one of the few occasions I would paint them codex grey, wash them with badab black, carefully re-paint them with codex grey (avoiding the recesses), paint slightly less of them with a lighter grey (elf grey?) and then edge the edges with white. That'll really help define them and make them not look like bits youve missed.

Also, something I learned painting Escher. To make her look more feminine, paint her lower lip v carefully with a pale pinkish brown. The exact shade is up to you (my escher are quite gothy so i used an almost purplish colour, and in one extreme case, black) but anyway, lipstick helps define the mouth.

*edit* gomen, in my rush to give opinion, I forgot to add that theyre looking really rather good, especially in the group shot. I particularly like the jeans in the non-flash pic.

as a separate aside: Corax made some progress today, with most of his left lightning claw now done. Just the fist part - I still need to do the right shoulder and the OSL on his body from it. After that, I need to do some green OSL from the crystal on the ground (so the base isnt just plain black), blueish turquoise OSL from his gorget over his face, and yellow OSL from the two lights on his backpack (again, so the back of the model isnt pure black.)

hmmn. We may be some time on this one. I wanna paint the witch coven of garlgast, goddamit

Nice job on the Guildsters!

Welp, it looks like my goal may be done in by Mother Nature and the rainy season. I don't want to run the risk of screwing up a batch of models by priming in this humidity, so I've got a regiment of gobbos waiting in the wings in bare plastic. Hopefully we'll get at least one dry day in the next week or so...
