Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
Re: Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
I just wrote a massive write up for our game today it took me about an hour. It vanished because the site logged me out. I'll try again tomorrow. Or maybe not!
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

Thanks for hosting the game today Dave it was great fun. Jus, good show also thanks for making it to Tsu.
The apple pie was excellent too thanks Kaz.
Rather than rewrite everything that has just disappeared I can let you know that our heroes are fine and after a long time wondering where Arkwright had got to he was finally found face down in the riverbank by some monks at the monastery. Looks like he took a plunge down the 100 foot waterfall. Unconscious he is rushed to the infirmary where the monks do their best to bring him back to health. He lives. The monks are baffled at his appearance though. Despite having all his trappings and weapons the only item of clothing he is wearing is a makeshift fundoshi.
Also the result for crypt time keeping is now skirmish rather than onslaught from the undead horde.
Next time. I'm hoping January for the final chapter: Death shall not have them.

Re: Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
Jus, guys here is the spec for playing Lichemaster as a series of 3 or 4 fantasy battle games.
Could be fun if we can get enough card buildings.

As I said yesterday it was originally used in conjunction with the rpg game as an option to fight the battles using the fantasy battle rules.

Re: Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
Chapter 4: The Fall of Frugelhofen and Secrets in the Crypt.
So here’s my second attempt at recording yesterday’s game.
We start with Dave surrounded and outnumbered at the fall of Frugelhofen. With the village leaders they rapidly decide to form a fighting retreat. A rearguard is formed by the stronger fighters to retreat to Widow Le Reuxs barn to collect Jus and retrieve the escargots so they can escape via river. Mus has been lost fighting somewhere in the melee. We don’t know where he is, he was last seen chasing the Lichemaster only to be cut off by a wall of skeletons.
When Dave and the villagers arrive at the barn they find Justin still sleeping. For some reason he has slept through it all and is only clad in a makeshift fundoshi. He grabs his robe and dresses hurriedly. Another person is hiding in a barrel. It’s Cecil the toff. He is hiding from what he thinks is another wave of undead. When he realizes it’s the villagers he dusts himself off and goes about looking organized. “Come on everyone, grab an escargot that’s it chop chop etc”.
Jus wakes from his fitful sleep and joins the refuges. They each grab an escargot and fight their way to the river fending off undead attacks as they go. Jus is very quickly cut down to 0 wounds again as he falls out of his escargot and is chopped by a skeleton in the shallow waters. Dave ever the baler out of friends in this adventure grabs Jus from the river and hauls him into his escargot while he swims for the one that has drifted astray. Narrowly avoiding a skeleton attack he finally makes it.
The survivors pick up speed in the Vaswasser and escape from the carnage. They enter the rapids. After a mad ride down the river in their small boats they see flotsam and jetsam ahead. “The waterfall,” someone shouts, “We have reached La Maisontaal.” Indeed they have made it back to the monastery but they are at the top of a 100ft waterfall. Dave manages to steer his escargot to the riverbank, after he falls out of his vessel and is rescued by other villagers. Meanwhile Jus is getting swept towards the falls. Dave remembers he was wise enough to pack rope. He said to himself “Dave how about a bit of rope? You’ll want it if you haven’t got it.” Well he has it. Dave throws the rope to Jus; Jus is swept along some more towards the edge of the falls. Finally he gains a good grip and Dave hauls him to shore with a successful strength test.
The survivors make their way from the river down the cliff path to the monastery. The monks have hot soup and bread for everyone; the wounded are taken to the chapel and the critical to the infirmary.
Jus decides now would be a good time not only to get healed but to study medicine also. He follows Grandpa Guntha around as he attends to the sick and learns cure light injury spell. Dave gives the magic healing scrolls to Jus also to use in future.
Jus manages to heal 5 people with the help of Granpa Guntha.
Many have fallen during the battle and the care for the sick goes on until dawn. The dwarves lament the loss of their Loremaster Gimbrin Finehelm and one dwarf gives a rousing speech about how they will get those boneheads this time. The dwarves start work on the defenses. They believe the monastery is strong and a good place to castle up against the undead horde. It is believed they have until dusk the next day to prepare for another onslaught. This time who knows how many Kemler may have risen against them.
Dave finds a spare guest room and collapses from lack of sleep. Jus does the same after he has finished in the houses of the healing.
Jus’ character again has haunted dreams in which he speaks with Kemler the Lichemaster. Kemler offers him the gift of fire magic if he delivers a box to him that is hidden in the monastery crypt. When Jus asks him why he should trust him the Lichemaster goes into a long history of how he came to be the all-powerful lord of the undead. His story goes on for several pages and Jus learns how he was originally a necromancer from Nuln who was outcast. Looking for refuge in the Grey Moutains Kemler was taken in by the monks at La Maisontaal and cared for. He was later found to be conducting necromancy in the grounds and was once again outlawed. Living in the mountains from day to day a shadow of his former self, broken and bitter he found a burial mound belonging to the head of the blue blooded bandits. A demon that had possessed the dead soul of Zwemmer, the leader, controlled Kemler and convinced him to raise the armies of the fallen blue blooded bandits in exchange for untold powers. Now Kemler seeks revenge on the monastery and the monks. He greatly desires a box that is hiddin within the crypts. He shouts “Bring me the box and I will grant you the gift of firrrreeeeeee”……..Jus wakes up, thank Taal, and decides to investigate the crypt. It is now mid-morning the next day. Only 3 hours sleep has Justin had but he feels fantastically revived and fresh, almost a new man. Not only that he has plus 10 to his weapon skill and all his magic points and wounds restored to their full quota. Unexplainable, or is it a gift from Kemler?
Jus or should I say Von Carstein sets off alone to explore the crypt. At first he finds the doors to be locked, pondering on what to do, the lock magically unlocks with a click. More Kemler blessings perhaps?
Jus loses track of time in the crypt. There are so many monks entombed here. Over one hundred at least. A shiver runs through him as he imagines what horror would be released if Kemler ever made it to the crypts. The founders of the monastery are buried here as well as the previous Abbot who died a few weeks ago before Jean Louis Dintrins was master.
Scratching his head in search for a secret door Jus goes back and wakes up Dave and tells him of his dream. Together they find nothing out of the ordinary but they are not satisfied so they enlist the help of Shalyir the elf ranger. She is making preparations to leave with Albi for Nuln and can’t spare much time. Shalyir an expert tracker finds a knot in a wooden carved tree that acts as a keyhole. The wooden carved tree is part of a wooden carving of La Maisontaal countryside used as a backdrop for one of the monks sarcophagi. After locating this she leaves and goes back to packing.
Without a key the party manages to smash the door down.
They reach a level of the crypt that hasn’t seen activity for at least 40 years and is probably unknown to the monks. They press on. What follows is a labyrinth of hidden doors, deadly dart traps, rooms with sleeping gas traps, pitfalls and a mysterious Iron Man that can only follow simple commands like forward, stop, back, turn right, left,
stand on one foot etc.
Finally after being shot at, gassed, knocked out and spooked by strange noises of gears clanking and bells ringing they locate a study. The study holds many magical items and a box. It seems someone was experimenting here.Jus recoginises it as the box Kemler spoke of. It is the Arca Chaotis. A famous magical item used by skaven. It has been said to have appeared at opposite ends of the Old World at the same time of day and it is said to have untold powers. Taking the box, the magical items the wizards diary and the Iron Man back to the surface with them, they barely have time to breath the fresh air when they are greeted by 6 monks. The monks have been alerted to the crypt by an alarm mechanism that was triggered by our heroes in the crypt and rang out in Jean Louis study.
Before anymore explanations can be given by either party they are attacked by d3+1 skeletons.
The undead horde are drawing near it seems. A mist hangs over the grounds making it hard to see the main chapel buildings.
They will have to fight their way back to the main complex. But I’m sure our heroes can handle a splattering of skellys at this stage. Or can they? Find out next time.
The end is a little different to our first result after leaving the crypt but going over the time keeping again it turns out you weren’t as long as we thought in the crypt. That’s lucky.
Next time folks, let me know either New Year or January for the final bash.
Be there or be with fundoshi.

Re: Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
I would just like to take this opportunity to thank Ash for being a great GM, and to point out that Fiarel (the elf) is the only PC not to have been found unconscious/sleeping and clad only in a fundoshi in the course of this campaign. Hurrah for elves!

Re: Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
Well, I'll leave it to Ash the GM to write a no-doubt comprehensive report on what happened in the climax of the campaign, but suffice to say:
1) Fiarel remained conscious and fundoshi-free for the course of the campaign.
2) he got in some serious time with an elf lady-friend, and learned some verrra useful skills...
3) Jus's character (Von Carstein, no relation) is a man who is lucky to be alive.
4) Mus character has now recovered from his time in the monastery infirmary and decided to give up on being a hard drinking barbarian and instead be a tree-hugging monk of Taal.
Big thanks to Ash for running this campaign. It was a lot of fun. Hopefully at some point in the dim and distant we can start on some Black Crusade, once I've read the rules properly...

Re: Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
Thank you Ash for putting up with the constant character ret conning! and for creating a memorable adventure. (and for finally giving my character a fireball spell, you have seen my life's ambitions fulfilled)
Re: Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
It was a blast as always, thanks everyone who took part in this first mini campaign. I hope we can play another one sometime later in the year.
In summary here's what happened.
Our heroes made their way out of the crypt with the Iron Man, the ring and the Arca Chaotis. Above ground they were met not only by a group of monks who had been alerted by an alarm system connected to the crypts secret doors but also by two skeletons. These are promptly dealt with but wounds are suffered and cure light injury spells are used.
Off to see Jean Paul with the manuscript found in the crypt and the artifacts. Jean Paul greets them and studies the items. He tells them the Iron Man needs the Arca Chaotis to be opened in order to work properly. He says only skaven know how to work this thing as it is their magic artifact. A young monk Victor, reports that a band of skaven were seen some hour ago near the Vaswasser in the woods. Jean Louis has the idea to enlist their help to open the box and save the monastery by using it's warpstone power against Kemler.
Von Carstein decides to head to the chapel to pray to Taal, he is joined by Jean Paul and Padre Pierre.
Fiarel and Victor head out through the earth closets and the sewers to reach the sewer opening on the other side of the monastery grounds.
When they reach the woods they can see the undead completely circling La Maisontaal through the thick unnatural mist. There is a groaning on the wind, the dead approach. Quickly they begin to track some footprints to seek out the skaven.
Meanwhile Von Carstein sees his chance and exits the chapel only to steal the Arca Chaotis, the ring and The Iron Man from Jean Louis study. He makes his way out of the Chapel by sweet talking the junior monks and not only that manages to walk unscathed through the gates and out into the grounds to the drop point. Kemlers skeletons are waiting for the box. Two of them carry it away towards the undead horde and three of them draw their swords and form a rear defense against Carstein and the Iron Man as they depart. Carstein follows.
Back in the woods Fiarel the elf and Victor the junior monk find the skaven. A rather amusing converse follows in skaven speak. A bargain is struck. The skaven agree to help with the box to kill the undead in order to keep the box for the themselves later. In order to form a trust, Victor the monk is left in the woods with Raskabak the leader and three others as a hostage. Raskabak has a huge bandage on his head, this is the skaven that our party shot in the first chapter after all.
Fiarel and three skaven make it back to the Vaswasser to see Carstein and the undead making off with the box towards the undead horde. The skaven run after the box and Fiarel tries to stop them but Carstein casts zone of silence on the area so no communication can be heard. Fiarel tries to run after them but it is not long before Carstein, the Iron Man, the skaven and the skeletons are hidden within the undead horde. Fiarel runs back to the monastery via the sewer pipe and back up through the earth closets. Here he encounters 6 skeletons and manages to slay 3. He tells Jean Louis and Pierre Padre he doesn't have the box or the skaven. To which they both shout to the heavens "Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo."
The undead horde are already within the walls and invading the monastery. The monks head for prayer. Fiaral prays to Taal also.
Meanwhile Von Carstein has walked un molested through the undead army and finds Heinrich Kemler on his skeleton chariot outside an outlying barn. He is protected and surrounded by his minions but grants Carstein and audience. Kemler now has the box and gives Von Carstein the gift of fireball. The 3 skaven are captured and brought before Kemler and tortured. Carstein casts fireball on the skaven in order to get them to open the box. One is fried so they agree to open it. A burst of warp lightening explodes from the Arca Chaotis and Carstein orders the Iron Man to walk into the beam. The skaven are killed by Kemlers minions. The Iron Man is now fully functional and operational, he is ordered to attack Kemler. The Iron Man jumps on the chariot and rips ten pounds of shit out of the Lichemaster. He is already at half health.
In the chapel a miracle occurs and Taal grants Fiarel the gift of flight. He flies over the undead horde and arrives at the final scene with Kemler and Carstein. Kemler attacks the Iron Man and does a little damage, He then retreats, casts a forcefield around himself and summons a new chariot. He does have 62 attacks at initiative 104 after all.
The Iron Man continues to batter Kemler, Kemler reaches 0 wounds and is delivered a series of critical hits before Carstein finally decides to order the Iron Man to pick up the Arca Chaotis and aim it at Kemler.
Kemler is vanquished by a warp lightning bolt from the box and melts into the earth. Steam rises and he is gone.
Well done folks.
Many died at La Maisontaal. You receive your reward of 100 GC, 1 fate point gained each (Mus included) experience and new training from various NPCs (quality time with Shalyir and Jean Louis etc)
The Iron Man, ring and Arc Chaotis are left with La Maisontaal, the villagers and Dwarves to rebuild the valley.
Arkwright decides to pursue some training as a Taal monk (this career option is now open if you want to play with this character again you can choose this career path if you so wish or stay as a Barbarian).
Fiarel is now a Targeteer.
Von Carstein is now a battle wizard level 2.
Victor the monk? Is found in the woods dead. The skaven are gone. The bargain was not kept.
Thus ends the Terror of the Lichemaster.
Next time?
More Warhammer fantasy either in the form of this edition or 3rd.
Black Crusade: I'm very eager to play this to be honest.
Until next time, well met and may your purses forever run with gold, bold adventurers.
Thanks for the good times.

Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

Re: Warhammer fantasy Roleplay
Sounds like fun was had by all. Perhaps I'll be able to make time for the next one...
