The spray gun was a really cheap bit of plastic that could hardly be called an airbrush.

It would be nice to know what might be going out of production. I remember my old Black Legion uniform was Chaos Black and Brazen Brass. When they discontinued Brazen Brass I had to go over to vallejos Brassy Brass which is really similar but slightly more shiny.
Also I can't understand some of GW's decisions regarding paints. While I understand some paints really don't move, there are other paints that nearly stand at legendary status. I refer to Chestnut wash that people loved so much for washing on faces and flesh. I remember the store owner kept a bottle with a few drops left in a special place guarding it for his future projects.
Anyway, I guess I might stock up on an extra bottle of Devlon mud and Scorched brown just in case.

I might need to head in and find a good supply of a few colors too! It's a funny story but back in Canada the hobby shop I ran games at had a stock of special paint for a dedicated few. We had a paint series (I wish I remembered the brand!) that went out of production 5 years ago. To this day whenever we painted Reaper Minis we waited until the store closed, he'd lock the doors and bring out the remaining three sets he pulled aside just so we could use the amazing color palettes it had (over 100 colors!). I still haven't found a better paint for minis than those eyedropper like bottles, but GW paints do come really close. I'll miss em!

I got me some vallejo paints. The are very good paints. Heaps of Colours and they are smooth as can be. They even work in my air brush. I say good riddens to the GW paints the dry out an are sold at an outrageous price.

I've been enjoying Vallejo too. Just be careful — most of the reds, yellows and greens have cadmium in them, and are extremely toxic to airbrush. The label usually says whether there is any, and the Model Air range of course is non-toxic, but doesn't have all the nice colours that the other ranges have.Admiral-Badruck wrote:I got me some vallejo paints. the toxic paints seem to look and work the best I air brush them but I use my paint mask with them is that still dangerous?

So long as you are doing it outside, you should be fine. Indoors, there is no guarantee that it isnt still airborne when you finish and take off you mask. I reckon you'd have to spray a LOT to pose a real risk as there probably isn't much Cadmium in the mix (the bottles I have all have a 'no health risk' label on them), but it's still probably better to do it outdoors, especially since you have family members who may come into the room during/after the spraying.Admiral-Badruck wrote:the toxic paints seem to look and work the best I air brush them but I use my paint mask with them is that still dangerous?
Plus, having seen the results of airbrushing in a small room, it will help keep your house in good condition if you do it outside.

Do Vallejo paints really have toxins in em? I've never read anything to that effect. Regardless, airbrushing inside is a bad idea, as my painty-room in my old apartment will attest (when we were cleaning before we moved out? Yikes!) I'd strongly recommend building a wee extractor unit (or buying one). I made mine out of a kitchen extractor fan (you can buy in Ks denki or similar shop) and some bits of wood I stuck together to make a cabinet bit. Not hard and vg for keeping the room (and your lungs) clean.
