There are days when I wake up and realize this the actual reality. Then I see the latest GW goodies on a table or online and I sink back to forking over cash and soul to the Imperium.

Small unit of crack commanders with lot of extra stuff pointed on the models. Lets see what the new edition will bring to balance and rule changes.

Amen Brother the game is way more fun in a Kill team/ Kill zone point level... hell 4 ed combat patrol is competitive and yet still loads of fun...an those armies would not even cost you $200 bucks I guess most of them could be made with the standard battle force set...

Better? I think "different" is more appropriate. 2nd edition works fine with a small reinforce platoon - 20 - 30 regular infantry, a few elites/heavy infantry and a vehicle or two. Compare that with 5th edition where you can comfortably field most of a reinforced company. You've basically jumped up a level. At this stage, the problem with the 40K core rules is a lack of rigour in the writing, a massive over-use of special abilities and rules and insufficient abstractions. The game has gone from 2nd edition where the basic "item" was the model to now where it's the squad. Almost. Except for when it isn't, which makes things awkward. Consider - you test for difficult terrain or being stationary at the unit level, as well as close combat and casualty resolution. however, you measure ranges or movement distances on an individual model basis. AT-43, Tomorrow's War and Disposable Heroes all go a stage further - movement distances, ranges and line of sight are drawn from the squad leader and squad members need to be within a certain distance of that leader. The individual models in the squad are basically there as status markers (is there a heavy weapon? how near to being eliminated is the unit?) and to denote the area of the battlefield controlled by that unit.

Second ed was fun but. I would still say 5ed actually plays faster. How ever I think the small point levels make the 5ed plays just fine it is just that people have enormous collections and want to play with all the toys they have.

"pants on head retarded" I just about choked on my coffee. Why is that so funny?
I play because it's like fun. It's a really challenging game because if you are not careful, your pantslegs flop around and knock your miniatures on the floor when you lean over the table.

2nd ed, 5th ed, so long as you are having fun, what does it matter? So long as the things you enjoy in the game outweigh the things you dont like, then it is all good. If you dont like a particular edition, just wait 4-5 years and play something else in the meantime.
