Why do I play 40K: (in no particular order)
1. I have three fully painted 7000+ points armies.
2. Two fully painted armies on the table with good scenery looks cool and impressive (but same could be said of WFB)
3. It`s still the most popular game, so it`s easy to find opponents.
4. Love the setting and fluff; I read a lot of the novels.
5. I`ve played it for a long time.
6. Non-metal models are easy to convert/customize.
Why I haven`t playing 40K much recently: (in a particular order)
1. Rules are pants on head retarded compared to War Machine/Hordes
2. 40K battles are often won or lost in the "Purchasing Models Phase" or "Making Lists" phase of the game.
3. I refuse to buy anything else from GW directly after the "If-you-want-to-buy-our-products-online-you-must-use-GW-Japan-website-and-purchase-in-yen" incident. I`m also trying to show some solidarity for my Australian and New Zealand brothers who seem to have gotten the worst of it. I occaisionally pick up stuff on eBay.
4. Battles over 1500 points take forever to set up and play.
5. Codices get updated less frequently than Olympics occur...some far less than that.
6. After a bad turn in 40K, there is almost no possibility to come back and steal a victory...you just have to play out a long, already-decided loss.
6. Every army starting to play the same (i.e. cram unit with meltaguns into transport, repeat, repeat)
I guess that`s about it. I may think of something later and add it though. I still play...I probably always will. I`m planning a one person (7000 points) vs. one person (7000 points) all fully painted battle with R-Man later this month. It will probably be a glorious and legendary battle, and I`m very much looking forward to it. But, recently I enjoy playing PP games more than 40K (or WFB). As I mentioned in another thread, it`ll be interesting to see what GW does with 40K 6th edition.

hmm power gaming and bad player attitude aside, why don't I play 40k?
I prefer the swords and sorcery setting to cogitators and input fields( yeah ok, to be fair there are laser beams as well).
-mephiston can take out 40 black templars a chaplain, an emperor's champion and 3 cenobyte servitors BY HIMSELF. (true story)
-codices past their used-by date are shoehorned into singular builds in order to be effective. e.gI want to run biel-tan eldar. run them with jetbikes and war walkers... wait, thats not really biel tan any more.
-mad dok grotsnik....
-the new grey knights fluff is major face palm with a power fist. SPLAT.
-Matt Ward...
- My 300 year old terminators, venerable veterans of a thousand battles each, whose many accolades run into the untold billions, have just deep struck into a rock... may they rest in peace.

Re: Why do you or don't you play 40k?
I play 40K because:
The setting is cool, although that comes out more in the RPG than in the Wargame. I know it's all grimdark, Ennui, but whether it's there or not I see a tongue-in-cheek humour in a lot of the fluff I read, which makes it better!
It's totally engaging because there is a lot of strategy involved, but there is enough chance due to dice rolling and armies being unbalanced that it's not so serious as chess or stuff like that. When I'm playing 40K, it's like the world doesn't exist outside of that 6 foot by 4 foot space.
It's fun to make giant monsters eat Orks or Space Marines or whatever, and very rewarding when my underdog army (Tau) manages to be victorious.
What I don't like:
It's expensive, and designed to make you continually buy more stuff if you want to have a good army. As far as that point goes I prefer Warmachine: new stuff is fun to try, but pretty much every unit is good in some way.
Painting and modelling - well actually I don't mind it, it's a nice relaxing way to spend a day, but given a choice between painting and playing I would probably choose playing 95% of the time!

That can't be limited to just 40K, can it? A douchey player will be a douche regardless of the game they are playing. Or do you think that 40k is a douche magnet?jus wrote:hmm power gaming and bad player attitude aside, why don't I play 40k?
