Narrative Battle Scenerios

Just thought I'd share this http://www.thedeploymentzone.com/, which I stumbled across.

They are using some interesting original battle scenerios that focus more on objectives than kill points.

Worth having a look I reckon.

The site referred to this:

Narrative Battle:
The narrative battle for this scenario – The Battle Royale is represented by the Battle of the Azure Flame detailed in the story above. Other than the location – it follows the same rules as detailed on page 406 of the Warhammer Rulebook.

I like the idea. I definitely would like to see more objective oriented games where we fight to for position rather then killing each other (which can devolve into "tabling" or running away).

I'm just cautious about making rules so they are balanced as possible for both sides.

I like their idea of central objective and having a number of secondary objectives like killing the opposing general. I also like their Chaos Wastes rule. It is very limited and a fair rule with an up and down side.

I'm a little more hesitant about the Alter rules. They are far more elaborate and some armies without wizards have no way to use the ability. (Ahem. :D ) I think it would be a good rule for a large game, even a team game, where you want a few things to really mix things up.

Should we also write down our own ideas here?

That's nice. It would explain why the rules are very well developed.

But I think I won't be buying the book. I might rip it off if it appears on the internet but that might be stealing. :| I have some compunctions about taking from a fair brand like Forgeworld.

Anyway, the idea of a narrative-based mission should include forming rules ourselves that fit the situation, so I think taking ideas and creating our own would be very suitable.

hmmm battle senarios... I LIKE IT!

@kojibear: I think its a great idea, and we should work at getting some scenarios put together for some FB, or just borrow from tamhurkan.

Here is a simple battle Koji and I played recently.

Play the Dawn Attack mission, but start with at least half the units in reserve.

The table should probably be a little smaller then normal (5'x4' or 4'x4') or played for 7 turns.

Beginning with turn one roll a dice for each unit in reserve. On a 4+ they appear. In subsequent turns add +1 to the roll. (Turn 1: 4+; 2: 3+; 3: 2+; 4: automatic).
When a unit appears from reserve, roll a dice again. On a 1- it appears 12" from the center of your table edge; on a 2,3, it appears 12" from the center of the table edge to your left; 4,5, the unit appears 12" from the center of the table edge to the right; on a 6 the unit appears from the center of the table edge of your opponents.
Units entering this way can't charge on the first turn they appear. (But they can move, cast magic and shoot normally.)
Units with vanguard entering from reserve can re-roll the dice to see where from they enter the battlefield.

The mission is to represent forces falling upon each other in surprise. It seemed to be fairly balanced when we played and there was always a surprise and uncertain factor that kept our game always exciting and back and forth.

Glad you agree Mister Campaign Director Sir! :D (Psst...do I get some brownie points? ;) )

The scenerio would of course need to adjust ever so slightly to the races involved on the game.

Still not sure who is up for the challenge at the next Joshin. Then again Nagoya Hammer is just round the corner.
