Don't give up ever on war-gaming and gaming in general, Ash. I've known a lot of gamer-dads, and they usually get some gaming in depending on their occupations and families. Heck, a couple point out to their wives that gaming is a lot healthier and family-oriented then hitting the bar/pub with co-workers after work or on the weekends. (Well, with exception to the glue and aerosols. )

Back OT. Why stop painting Ash? I can understand a break from gaming but I found painting was a great activity when there are wee babies about. I don't mean industrial scale, regiment in a week type painting, but rather painting figures just 'cos they look cool etc. You'll be at home a lot for the first wee while anyway. It's a very quiet pursuit. It can be stopped and started at anytime etc etc. Don't do it mate!

To Job and Mike, Oh I wont be giving up painting or gaming for that matter but I am definitely limiting the gaming to once a month if I can. The painting will be set aside for Winter I reckon. Nothing industrial like I have been doing these past 5 years or so. That's why I started this thread so I could locate everything I've painted in one place.
I want to get out and do a bit more hiking, recording, writing and sports if I can.
Right now we live in a very small apartment. I think the fun of painting in that shed was the atmosphere inspired me to paint all those unfinished goblins lurking around from my early teens. A shed and a hobby room holds atmosphere and can improve the quality of our painting I reckon. Or writing, or whatever you create there. I can honestly say that one year at home in Devon was probably one of the happiest years of my life. Pure indulgence.
I'm put off the thought of painting when there is a baby around because my friends daughter drank a pot of skull white one afternoon when he wasn't looking thinking it was milk and she was rushed to Accident and Emergency. She was fine thank God but she now has a rare interest in tanks at the age of 3.
Anyway this is more of a turning point than a sayonara to the hobby. Less is definitely more. Thanks for the support lads
If I can get away for half a day to join NH in May I will. Even just to say hi or try some freeplay.

@Job "Deep in my ju-ju" is definitely a Might Boosh-ism rather than a British one Although I believe it would stem from New Orleans jazz. That epsiode is called the Spirit of Jazz, there is a scary jazz ghost/demon that plagues Howard throughout the episode.

You see there's that word again, 'shouldn't', completely useless but easily applied in hindsight.

Oh no quite the opposite. Mark is a very diligent parent and loving father it was just a case of the toddler being a lot faster than the old duffer I'm afraid. You have to watch them all the time when they start to move I've heard. All his stuff is in the attic now as a result.
Anyway I'll try and update this thread as and when with new photos so I'll try to keep it back on topic for now if that's OK.

Gomen - perhaps the word "sloppy" was a bit strong. I didn't mean to imply he was being a bad father, just that the danger didn't lie with the paint so much as the location of said paint. I'm sure he's a lovely chap no offense intended, to be sure.

And aye, the world is filled with should've beens and could've beens, but so long as we learn from em it's all good, ne case in point being I should've chosen my words more carefully (not for the first time, more's the pity...)

@ash: very good! I'm glad you are determined to enjoy the things you love ontop of your role as Dad. Very respectable and impressive.

And I didn't know that about "ju-ju". I think I'll adopt the lingo myself as I like the comical value.

It's been over 5 months now since I've picked up a paintbrush. Getting the urge again. FoW lurking under the bed. Also was inspired by a recent purchase to go all historical again, as well as new ed 40k (I'm thinking Deathwing special ops army) and Pike and Shotte. It's an exciting time for wargaming again.
I found an absoloute steal on (hey hey) The Blue Table Painting website. Several job lots of historical minis. Not sure what range they are only that there are tons of them. Swiped the lot for about 200 dollors. A vast range of American Civil War painted. Persian and Italian allies for ancients if anyone fancies building a 20mm Alexander army to play me at a later date.

What looks like Arthurian Brits or medieval minis. It's not clear what they are. Also some blister packs. It's crazy so I've told the company not to post them until Christmas. If anyone is interested we could use the ready painted American civil war minis for Black Powder sometime. I'll make a fog of war scenario for two players to jump right in. No purchase of models needed.

Blue Table are quite a good option if you either want to buy a job lot of used minis (non 40k is less expensive) or simply want to buy models and have them assembled and undercoated for you. Postage works out about 35 dollars to Japan. The commissions are silly numbers though as we discussed earlier in the year.
