NagoyaHammer 2012 - Feedback
Hey guys, if there is any feedback that you would like to post regarding any part of NagoyaHammer 2012 EXCEPT for how your games played out, please post it in this thread. I will leave the trash talking thread active for a while so you can brag/moan about your individual results there.
This thread is for you to express your thoughts and ideas about the event as a whole. What did you enjoy? What did you think worked well? Was there anything that I could have done to improve your gaming experience? Were the missions as horribly broken as some people claimed?
I would also like to take the time to thank everyone who came to the event for helping make it a great couple of days gaming. When I popped out into the hallway to grab a drink, I could hear the sound of everyone talking, laughing, rattling dice and generally having a good time. It was a very good sound to hear. So thanks to everyone for being great sports and playing fair.

The sportsmanship was the best I have ever played with. The I think having a partner really helps. Eric and I got crushed every game. But I think that was mor because we could not get our act together not anything to do with the missions. I would also like to add that Ikedasan is a top bloke for supporting the event and giving massive discounts.

First of all, a big thank you to the Organiser. This event and those others like it are really special for all of us. Thank You.
Next. thank you to my wonderful partner Miguel. Destiny brought our desert Imperials and Marines together and all in all we gave our first two opponent teams a run for their money! The Necrons however taught us that there maybe others in the universe who may, and I say may, come close to being as powerful as the Imperium. Well, not too close.
We have a new respect for the metallic fiends! Rematch we say!
Finally, thank you to all. What a great bunch of players! I am new to this game and I was never made to feel inadequate or foolish with my decisions. In fact people went out of their way to help me. I was a little 40Ked out by the end of the 2nd day and more than a little tired from staying up to the wee hours of the morning painting, but I enjoyed all my games in some way thanks to my team mate's enthusiasm and those epic moments - such as my Space Marine Sergeant Achmed and his powerfist 'sting' duking it out with the Orc Warboss and finally killing said boss with one last strike before Achmed himself slid to the sands to die.
Well, look forward to the next event 40k, Fantasy or otherwise and look forward to seeing you all.
Oh, and well done to the team from Tokyo, and well done to the ultimate winners, Underdweller and Dangunius!

Thanks, but don't forget team Inaka Dakka!kojibear wrote:Oh, and well done to the team from Tokyo, and well done to the ultimate winners, Underdweller and Dangunius!
I liked the way Nagoyahammer was set up this year; it was really good for encouraging new players because of the low points costs (750 points per person) and being able to team up with more experienced players. It was also fun to try new scenarios. As others have said, the overall atmosphere was relaxed, not overly competitive, and everyone seemed to be having fun.
I also enjoyed the Warmachine games on the second day, hopefully we can get a bigger crowd out for them next year!
Re: NagoyaHammer 2012 - Feedback
Let me add my thanks. I had a great time, and that is saying something seeing as da Team of da Gods came in last place...... We need a crying green emocon...
The scenarios seemed balanced and fun. Team play with small points I think is a good way to mix things up and keep it interesting. I hope we keep that for the next Naghammer.

I know I really enjoyed the Team format of play. I think it takes a lot of the competitiveness out of playing in a tourney and adds a lot to the fun side of it. (I know it`s a bit of a pain making sure everyone has a partner, Prim...but it really is worth it). I hope we keep the Team format for next year (but maybe move up to 1000 points per player).
The missions were great and fun to play.
The painting contest was handled very well.
It really was a great event and if nothing was changed for next year`s Nagoyahammer, I`d defnitely attend without reservation. However, in an effort to improve and enhance Nagoyahammer, I`d like to bring up just one thing: enough time for each round of the tournie. True, it`s impossible to completely plan for every contingency here, but some groups played very fast - easily completing the missions in the allotted time - and other groups could barely get through 3-4 turns. This caused a bit of problem in our first round match up when we hit the 12:30 time limit with only 3 turns completed. It hardly seemed like a good time to stop. Maybe there should be a more strict time limit ("Dice Down"). Or maybe there needs to be a kind of "12:30-or-5-turns-whichever-comes-first" kind of stipulation. Or maybe there is another option I`m not thinking of that would help speed up the games.
Lastly, the Nagoyahammer Nomikai needs to be kept as a tradition following the first night of wargaming.

I really enjoyed my first (and probably only
) Nagoyahammer.
It was the first tournament I've ever been to and I had a blast. Loved the doubles format and all the missions, which I'd use again for 4-person games.
Thanks for all the hard work setting it up and to everyone who participated. I'll try and make it back out before I head back to America. And if anyone wants to come to Toyama for some games, let me know

Green tea and red bull mixed with a splash of vodka.Or maybe there is another option I`m not thinking of that would help speed up the games.
I couldn't go but from what I've heard from MIJ and everyone, the tournament was the best yet this year. Inspired to take part next year with a serious Ultramarines list for all you Space Marine stompers out there.
I like the way you had lots of prizes for games as well as painting. 40k is clearly best played in a tournament setting it seems. I played just one game last year and it was good fun but the year before that when I entered the tournie, that was a blast it has to be said. Lets see what 6th ed brings and start preparing for next year. Exciting stuff.

Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

Re: NagoyaHammer 2012 - Feedback
As I'm mainly a painter and not a gamer I can't really talk about the gaming aspect of nagoyahammer but it did looked really cool.
Feedback wise I would have loved to see even more minis for the painted contest. Also having 4categories: large vehicles, single mini, squad and an over all best of show voted by the public. That could have been really cool and the best of show should have been the model taken for the Nagoya hammer website front page.
Maybe also having 2 or 3 judges for the contest could have been beneficial.
That my oppinion as far as the painting aspect of the event goes. I could add more things but it's not towards the contest it self so it all good for me.
So over all I'm really glad I did the trip! Will do it again next year and I'll be defenatly working on an army as soon as I have time to bring and play next year.

Re: NagoyaHammer 2012 - Feedback
First of all, thanks to the Organizers and great support by Ikeda-san!
I enjoyed the doubles tournament ant its missions. It was fun to talk with my partner, supposing what armies and tactics our opponents would bring
In order to improve the next event, I point out just one thing: schedule. Our team, First in Japan, assumed our games would go very quick (especially in our second battle where I had only 4 models in my roster) but it turned out all of our games struck the time limit and stopped short
It would be better to have a little more time for each game. It was also problem for us to know the exact time limits. It would be better to announce how to stop playing when the games strike the time limit beforehand (e.g. play top and bottom of the turn) and write out "today's schedule" and the next time limit on the white board.
As for painting contest, I thank the prize and praise I got. It would be better if I (or other volunteers) translated the contest's stipulations into Japanese a few month before the event to encourage entries from Japanese. It also would be better if stipulations of the tournament and paint contest translated into Japanese were kept on sponsoring Ikeda-san's shop.
