Everything I heard about it says it looked gorgeous but suffered from massive story problems. I'm guessing from AGP's comments that this isnt far off the mark.

I'm really disappointed by the terrible word-of-mouth reviews it's getting, and the apparently bad science and plot holes. On the other hand, it gets 73% on Rotten Tomatoes and four stars from Roger Ebert. Argh…

Hard to know what to make of it. At any rate, I hope it is better than the AvP movies. (Are they considered Canon by Aliens fans?)

Not by me, they're not. I won't even watch them.

Frankly, I think I prefer AvP; at least thge plot in that one was fairly straightforward, poor as it was.

I don;t think there's anything in Prometheus that would contradict anything in either AvP film. I suppose that makes it "canon", if you care about such things.

I loved Aliens vs. Predator. Did not see the sequel(s?). The scene with the Predator swinging the Alien around by the tail smashing stone pillars alone was worth it. It was the last sci-fi movie I remember seeing that was mostly animatronics and rubber suits. Everything afterwards has been pure CG.

Del Toro (Pan Labyrinth) the guy that makes the monsters was set to make Mountains of Madness but said he doesn't need to do it now because of Prometheus. It's a similar setting and story apparently. That makes me interested. :)
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

I've heard that if you go to Prometheus expecting an Alien franchise movie then you'll be sorely disappointed, but if you go expecting a run-of-the-mill SF movie to kill a couple of hours then you'll get what you expect. It's just what I've heard, tho, as it doesn't come out here until august 24th (preview) and a week later for general release.

Perhaps they have a new policy actively encouraging Internet downloads? Cos that's the only reason I can think to delay its release over here by such a ridiculously long time.

eh, y'know. Stuff, and things

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

Its because big name movies want big name translators. Sometimes they have to wait for the good ones.
Personally I am waiting for Avengers and The Hobbit. I have never been an Aliens fan. Hopefully I am off to see Snow White next weekend.
