NagoyaHammer 2013: Not just for 40k?
NagoyaHammer 2013: Not just for 40k?
With all the effort that goes into making NagoyaHammer the biggest event on our local gaming calendar, I like to try to think ahead about what we will be doing at the event. Obviously NH2013 is still a long way off, but I wanted to run some ideas past people and get some feedback. Nothing is being decided yet, I just want to get a little feedback.
Given that the recent release of 6th edition 40k has so far been met with little enthusiasm (and to be fair, not much criticism), I was wondering whether or not NH2013 should remain as a purely 40K event. At NH2012 we had a very small Warmahordes tourney on the second day and the sky didn't fall, so I am thinking that it may be ok.
Obviously there are reasons for and against multiple systems, one of the biggest being that too many systems leads to less games actually being played as people may only have one opponent there on the day to play with. It also means more to carry if you want to play 2 or more different games. On the other hand, more systems means attracting a wider group of people as not everyone plays 40K.
One thing I kind of wanted to do last time round, but sadly ran out of time for, was organising fixed scenario games of systems other people didn't play and running them as a demo/1-off game that people could try out as a break from the tournament. So if you want to try recreating a famous battle for FoW, a story for Malifaux or a gang fight for Necromunda you could do.
So what do folks think? I have created a poll, but please feel free to leave a comment or two explaining your ideas.

Re: NagoyaHammer 2013: Not just for 40k?
hum. A right sticky wicket of a question and no mistake. I can definitely see the advantages of keeping it pure 40k, but if the support aint there then what would the point be?
That said, I think if you did choose to keep it pure 40k then folks would likely rock up as normal. Perhaps last year's one day pure 40k and one day whatever would work quite well. That keeps a slight competitive element (which some folks seem to like, and tends to draw people in from further afield), and also gives the less competitve among us the chance to play for fun, do scenarios, and so on. I think it's important to have at least 1 day of 40k, and for it to be competitive, as that helps give it the feel of a special occasion. Prizes and whatnot help, too. The more I think about it, actually, the more I think a repeat of last year's format would likely be the best bet.
that's my two yen, anyway

Love 40k but I think we limit the number of people that could potentially showup. I would like to see all official events are 40k events. paint contest, tournaments things like that.

You had quite a few this year no? Tokyo players, that's excellent. Make the prizes big as usual and perhaps have it as one day. Keep it 40k that way people who are into that will travel. Maybe just spread the word, not only through Prim on emails but us lot can let other groups we know in Japan. There is a games convention in Kobe soonish for example. It may have already happened or it may be this Summer. Keeping it as is, is good. It 'aint broke so don't fix it. Suggesting one day only just so you can have more people turning up at the same time.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

I voted "40K main, organized participation games of other systems," purely selfishly as it would (schedule allowing) give me a chance to take part in a fun couple days of gaming. As you know, I am well-equipped to organize and run a participation game of Epic.

Re: NagoyaHammer 2013: Not just for 40k?
I voted 40k exclusive for one day, because I think their IS support, and people are secretly preparing for galactic conquest, they just aren't parading it on this forum. I haven't played a game yet, but just readin the rules has made me dig out and dust off my models.
Also it's tradition to have a nagoyahammer tournament that's only 40k during golden week. It's tradition!

It kind of is tradition isn't it? I say yeah, 1 day of organized 40K tournament of some sort. I day of free for all.jus wrote: Also it's tradition to have a nagoyahammer tournament that's only 40k during golden week. It's tradition!

Re: NagoyaHammer 2013: Not just for 40k?
I kond of like this year`s Nagoyahammer 2012 the best. I would totally be down for another Team Tourney using the actual Allies rules from the 6th edition rulebook....maybe move it up to 1000 points per player. You may have to split up me an Underdweller to give the other teams a chance, but...
However, I liked playing something else on the second day (WarmaHordes). I`d kind of like to something like that again next year as well. We didn`t have a lot of players for the WMH mini-tourney, so maybe we could try something else. Personally, I`d like to play semi-competitively (i.e. not just pick up games with whoever) in WarmaHordes, Monsterpocalypse, or Bloodbowl. These games are all pretty easy to bring with my 40K stuff (and I`m coming from a long ways away).
However, there is a lot of time yet to decide. I`d like to hear what other people have to say about it. How did everyone feel about the 40K team-tournament format? Would people prefer to go back to individual battles? If that is the case, 20 participants would probably take two days to determine a tournament champion.
Anyway, that`s my two yen (for now)

Re: NagoyaHammer 2013: Not just for 40k?
I pretty much agree with what has already been said. I don't play 40K anymore, but I am sure there will be plenty of people wanting to come along for a team tourney. So a one day 40K tourney would be good.
I would definitely be interested in some sort of Warmachine event, being scenarios, pick up games or a tourney on the second day.
The most important thing is to make it something that most people can't get at their on clubs. Otherwise they will be less inclined to make the trip. That includes things like the 40K team tourney, painting comp etc.
