The Other Dave wrote:You also got some of the old android models (the Necron-looking things in the third row from the bottom), which are really sought-after (or were until recently - a company recently came out with some nice Not-Necrons, which may bring their price down). True story - I e-bayed my 10 android models - not 10 stands, but 10 individual 6mm plastic models - for $50.

Even if you didn't get all that many orks, though, it's a good haul.

Yeah, I thought that a lot of that stuff didnt look orky. I picked out the Space Marine Dreads and Squat Mole Mortars straight away.

Very useful to know about the chaos androids mate, cheers.

But the stompas are what daddy is after!

Hmm! Early stages yet, but I think I like where this is going.

I'm terrible at painting those zig-zag things, but at least they're easier to do than checks. It looks a lot more dull and greasy and rusty IRL too, which is the look I'm going for.

(Also, I'm trying really hard not to order those AA guns for my Guard. I mean, Death Korps get to field a missile silo! How cool is that?)
Feel free to call me Dave!

That looks the mutt's nuts mate.

I have a request. Is there any chance you could get some close up pics of your ork infantry? The first of my Epic orders arrived and I now realise that I have absolutely no idea how I am going to paint the little buggers. They are T-I-N-Y!

They are not very big at all, no. :D

Here's a typical example:

All I do to get that is:
Black basecoat
Drybrush with gunmetal
Thin brown wash
Cut some red with what's left of the brown wash and slap it on where it looks good
Paint the arms and faces green

Easy as you please!

Great Orc Dreadnought thing. Looking good baby.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

One of the big space marine lots I picked up from a local game store had been started up in an Ultramarines scheme, complete with yellow trim on the shoulder pads, ultramarine chapter symbols and little arrows on the tactical squads' shoulder pads. Tellingly, there were only about 5 or 6 stands of dudes painted up. You *can* paint up Epic infantry to a very high standard, but I really wouldn't recommend it.

Well, unless you're a crazy-go-nuts painter like Rman or something. Then go for it, heh.

And that's the Mega-Gargant finished.
Image
I'm going to justify the messy zig-zag things by believing they're slapped on by grotz with mops and big buckets of paint, so uneven-ness and missed spots are only natural.

I guess I'm in an orky mood - I'm going to leave the stormravens for a bit (you can see my proxies behind the gargant) and work on kitbashing a drop rok and some supa-zzap guns.
