Charging fleeing units

Post by job » Sun Aug 26, 2012 8:32 am

Well, again, I learned something new it seems. And again, Asch has been my teacher. There's of course the chance I knew this before, but it seems to me that I've played a number of players and we each time played this the wrong way.

When an unit charges a "fleeing unit", the fleeing unit gets an automatically enforced Flee! charge response. (P. 17 under Flee!) Only if this still doesn't keep the unit out of charge range is the unit chopped to little bits and destroyed.

In the past a number of games I played we had units chopped up when hit by this charge, but we didn't roll for a charge response. :? oops.

Oh, well, live and learn. And in this case the distances were too far for my little dwarf legs to carry me the distance, even though I had some awesome rolls.

Thanks to Asch. :D

I have been playing the right way. And I barely read the rules.

But yep Asch is a proffesor of law and he does read the rules. So he is mostly right.

The point is to keep people talking about the rules between games because we don't play FB enough to know them when we do. If there's something new that you hadn't played before, I think it is worth posting, particularly because the Warhammer scene has been fairly quiet of late and there's Orktoberfest around the corner which is likely to bring up tons of rules issues as always.

Coincidently I talked to Prim about his feelings about last Orktoberfest, and he really doesn't want to end up settling rule disputes again, so I think it is a good idea to have a healthy review of rules on the forum and hopefully we can have a smooth tournament where nobody ever asks Prim or anyone else a rules question and settle things respectfully between players.

And I might point out that during our game over a year and half ago that you missed several rules, as did I. I recall we thought I got points for your routing stone trolls. Upon review they wouldn't have been my points. ;) My point is that we all make rules mistakes, particularly with FB.

But, yes, Asch is a great with the rules. :)

The same thing actually came up in my game with Nick, but I don't think we figured out that I needed to roll another flee attempt. Fortunately, his attacker didn't roll well enough to complete the charge.

Yeah, I'm actually guilty of doing this to Koji before. And its happened to me, too. (No harm or foul of course.)

Its a little confusing because in two other places in the book they talk about units being annihilated when they are hit by that charging unit, but the rulebook doesn't actually reference the Flee! rule except making the wording fairly clear only when you consider the two together. :?

Warhamer Fantasy is the game of remembering things! :D I still love it, though! :D If I remember anything from my last few games I'll post it up.
