Just curious. If a power weapon negates the enemy's armour save, why does the sword need an AP value? :?:

Edit* Sorry for asking and answering my own questions tonight. I must be tired and lazy. Sorry guys. Yep, it seems all power weapons are now AP3 in 6th edition.

Sorry to be a little green and a bit of a wet wipe here but is this for real? All these changes to the rules so soon after they have been released. It's worded wrong or the rule is being changed? I really want to make an effort with new edition but this is just a bit of a headache to be honest. Ah man, why can't they proof read their stuff? Someone shed some light on this please?

They assume that everyone plays the game the same way, then they get bombarded by questions because everyone interprets the rules differently.

That and they dont proof read stuff.

This isn't a new thing or in any way unique to 40K or even GW. Black Powder, Malifaux, Uncharted Seas, Warmachine, Dungeons and Dragons, Dark Heresy, all of the games I play have Erratas and FAQs.

So when you play do you adhere to the FAQ as well as the rulebooks?
I guess that would explain why I always struggled with the different takes folks had on 40k and fantasy rules. One lot of people just go from the book and another lot with more time for the hobby have a load of amendments. What a nightmare. Anyway, it is what it is. Perhaps these changes are just corrections to the wording and not such a big stresser. I have no idea.

They are also trying to update ALL of the armybooks to get players by until their new Codex gets released.

How many times have you bought a piece of software that needed to be patched or updated?

Very true. I suppose things are reeled off so quickly these days there isn't time to get it right on first printing.
Call of Cthulhu has just changed its rules after 30 years. It's in it's 7th edition now but it's the first time they have changed the rules. Caused a bit of a stir in the following. Chaosium just want to make a bit of revenue though. They are the GW of the Cthulhu world. Never tell anyone anything and take a long time to publish. These days a lot of kick starters are being used for new publications, fans are making their own scenario books instead of waiting. It would be great to do that with the codexs. GW would be on it though like orcs around dung. Anyway I digress. So FAQ, something I can live with for now.

I wind the best way to keep up with FAQs is to listen to podcasts not just one but a few. They normally discuss the rules well on Worlds End Radio an on the Eleventh Comapny pod cast the Hiroic 28s also has great rules discussion and on more that is just plain fun is the overlords.

GW are notorious for poorly written rules. In fact so much so that quite a lot of people clamour for more FAQs...

Meh, I'm much like you - I havent even played a game of 6th ed yet and they've gone and moved the goalposts already. I figure I'll read up on em before I play a game against someone, but till then there's not much point.

oh come on, lets be fair. They are rules clarifications. Not like they are rewriting history or anything :D . The Faq is up to help eliminate ambiguity in "some" areas.

example: dante is carrying the Axe Mortalis. Is it a power axe or a special power weapon? FAQ answer: it is a power axe.

Also maybe to stop people who have less sense than the urge to bully and exploit rules.

@kbear - not all power weaps are AP3. Power swords are AP3, but power axes are AP2, and Power mauls are AP4. Hence the bits in various FAQ about what weapons certain troops are actually carrying. (e.g. eldar banshee exarch, old model, has an axe. The FAQ says to disregard the axe-ness and just call it an executioner)

@Prim - that was FAQ'd months ago. I thought you knew that?

@jus - mostly rules clarifications. First page and a half is bits they just straight-up screwed up in the rulebook.

Oh, and I agree. This:
Q: If passengers disembark from a Transport that has suffered a
Shaken or Stunned result, do they still suffer these effects in their
next Shooting phase? (p80)
A: Yes.
is horrible.

And does this:
Q: Can psychic powers be mixed and matched from the psychic
disciplines and those found in the Codexes? (p418)
A: No. You may select from the psychic powers listed in the
Codex as normal or swap them for a number of rolls on the
psychic disciplines tables.
mean that I can take either 2 eldar powers or 2 rulebook powers, but not one of each? (for a farseer with spirit stones)? If so, why?
