Retribution of depression

Post by Dungeon Lord » Tue Sep 18, 2012 1:21 pm

I have read a lot of the Retribution of Scryah's history and it bumed me out
Is it just me or do they have the most depressing history out of the factions?

**EDIT** damn auto correct

Yup.

On the plus side, they do look quite cool, and if you wanted you could paint em all emo and it'd totally fit em :D

Meh, who am I kidding. Come join Cryx - it's where the party's at :D Nubile witches, the promise of immortality, and the absolute and certain knowledge that your god is harder than anybody else's. Why? Cos he's a dragon, ad he actually eats the heart of lesser deities. Nomnomnom...

But wait, who created the world and everything in it to begin with? Could it be Menoth? No puny dragon's going to be eating his heart anytime soon.

Well, no, a puny dragon wouldn't. A big kickass one might, though :D

Ok, so the BIG Cryx dragon eats the hearts of lesser gods. So what, it's probably easy to get away with stuff like that when you are an uber powerful necromancer dragon.
A bunch of regular Khadoran soldiers marched into the elven kingdoms and kidnapped a god, just because they felt like it. It's currently locked up in a prison cell in Khador somewhere.

The story has advanced a bit though...That elven god (still in his frozen stasis chamber, minus the sword - taken by Goreshade) was moved by Khador to keep the elves from regaining it. Then, they were simultaneously ambushed by Cryx (Goreshade again...he`s even sneakier and more manipulatin` than Asphyxious) and Ossyan of the Retribution. The Retribution manage to secure the elven god and get him back over the border into Ios...but Goreshade and Zerkova (what an odd alliance!) are close on their tails...and I wouldn`t be surprised to see another faction take a swipe at that elven god before it`s all through (since we know the Skorne are about to invade Ios).

I actually liked the Retribution of Scyrah fluff. They have to be the first elves in the history elvendom not to be ancient, condescending, perfect, know-it-alls that continually berate humans. I also like the merging of "Wood" & "High" & "Eldar" elf culture. They are secretive and isolationist. They live in the woods. They have some great fighters and their technology is probably the most advanced in the Iron Kingdoms. But, they do seem to "screw up" a lot, for being elves: their collapsing bridge to the heavens, their taking for granted of their gods, and allowing Goreshade to do what he did, and even their (possibly mistaken) belief that the proliferation of human warcasters is draining the magic from their own elven gods...so all human warcasters must die! All in all, I liked their fluff a lot better than say...the Skorne...or Circle.

Fair enough :) . They certainly don't have a boring history, it just that they seemed to have had so much grief and very little success for their efforts, plus they are hated by their own kind. I guess they could get the sympathy vote.

They have had a rough couple of centuries! I feel even more sorry for the Nyss, though (again, a unique twist where the "dark elves/drow" are more sympathized-with than the "normal elves"). The Nyss were essentially discriminated against by the rest of the Iosians for being to grim, and for living in a cold, somewhat isolated place. Then they broke away and formed their own little kingdom. But without help from Ios, they were easily overrun and converted to Dragon-worshipping Legion of Everblight; essentially puppets for Everblight. The few remaining Nyss are scattered across Immoren just looking for a way to "free" their bretheren from Everblight`s grasp...but seemingly without any chance of success...and the Iosians STILL won`t help them out. Then, they discover one of their gods is still alive and it`s Nyssor - the god of the Nyss.
So, the current story is laced with ironies and possibilities. What if the Retribution of Scyrah successfully get Nyssor back to Ios (and revive him)? Will he be pissed that the "regular elves" have ostracized his Nyss followers? Will he be pissed that his followers succumbed to Everblight? Will he have an answer for the soulless problem? Will he encourage or forbid the Retribution of Scyrah? Can he even do anything about it? Or, will he be apathetic and weakened like the other (lone) Iosian god? Or, what if Goreshades gets to Nyssor first? What if Goreshade is able to kill Nyssor? I guess we have to wait a while to find out the answers to these questions, but I`m looking forward to finding out - and I don`t even play Retribution.

That's one of the best parts is that all the factions have things at stake and each story is interesting in its own way.

Agreed. They really do a good job of mixing everyones` stories; lots of crossovers, alliances and showdowns. I just wish Cygnar wouldn`t get beatdown in almost every one of those stories  In Colossals, Siege Brisbane shot The Butcher with a bazooka at like 5 yards. The Butcher coughed a bit of blood, then proceded to slaughter everybody - including his own men (who tried to inform him that Khador and Cygnar had entered a temporary alliance to root out the forces of the Undead from the Thornwood...poor chumps). He beat down Brisbane with minimal effort (just like he has MAT 9, with a P+S 16 Weapon Master axe! Oh wait, that is what the Butcher has...).
