Death Korps of Krieg
Death Korps of Krieg
All my stuff is gone so I have to restart my 40k army so this time I gave it a good thought and a lot of time about what force to do.
I got an urge to start an Imperial Guard force that has been lasting a long time now so I decided to go for it, and I want a unique good looking one so I decided to go for the Death Korps.
Few days ago I ordered some things to get started from FW and I'll be posting here about my progress!
I'll be starting a new regiment and if you have any advice/suggestions on regiment names/numbers please share.

Good luck mate.
Are you going for a small, elite army or a mass of infantry?

Yuss!
As a dyed-in-the-wool xenos player, I have very little interest in the armies of the imperium. Space Marines get a big "hum" from me. SoB? Meh. IG? equally meh, except...
Death Korp of Krieg. They totally rock
I think the DKoK work best if you build them as the designers intended, i.e. a meat-grinder siege army. Plenty of tanks (oooh! Get the FW DKoK specific variants. They'll cost you less than a regular IG one will here in Japan...*edit* just checked - you'll save 200o yen or so per tank buying the tanks from FW) Stick to grungy tanks like the Malcador if you want to go super heavy. Maybe get some wierdy units like yon tunnelly thing. As for numbers, I guess it comes down to money and your can-I-be-assed-painting-them attitude. The more the better, but you have to draw the line somewhere. I'd say if you kinda aim for 60 or so infantry plus command and fancy types, and then fill up on tanks. Obviously that's a long term goal, though. For now, my recommendation is (as it always is for a new-start army) buy the minis you think look cool.*
Good luck, and be sure to post WIP pics when they arrive
*and when we're talking DKoK, that means the commisar. The DKoK commisar is probly the best IG model ever made, in my opininon**
**closely followed by the dudes on horses, and the commander from the command squad. Also ace minis

Re: Death Korps of Krieg
I've always thought Death Korp looked awesome. They'd be fun to base as well, covered in grimy rubble.

I haven't decided yet but I prolly want to make an armoured regiment, don't want too much infantry.Spevna wrote:Good luck mate.

Just like you say I am going to build up slowly, take it easy and enjoy putting a lot of effort into them.
So far I ordered a squad of grenadiers, I like those miniatures very much, Also ordered a heavy weapons team and I have something special in mind for the company commander.
Looking forward to get some tanks later on too!
Also thinking about using the chaos renegade ogryn models for ogryns, they have the masks so..
I am working on some bases right now, do my best not to let you down!Tenorikuma wrote:I've always thought Death Korp looked awesome. They'd be fun to base as well, covered in grimy rubble.
Re: Death Korps of Krieg
I am not familiar with the imperial armour books, and NOW I realize that the Korps have got their own codex.. Dang, just chose the Korps because they look really cool.. Just read it and here i was planning on using the original IG codex.. But I am afraid that the vanilla IG codex won't fit with the Death Korps fluff.. Hmm, what do you guys think about using the vanilla IG codex with the death Korps?
Edit
I also read that there are some problems in using the Krieg codex in standard games, also That everyone doesn't like to play against IA lists.. don't know any about this though. Let me hear what you guys think!

Re: Death Korps of Krieg
with regards to using DKoK in regular games, the only potential issue is that some tournie organisers don't allow Imperial Armour units. Prim, however, has confirmed that IA is fine for Nagoyahammer. I'll definitely be using some, as I really like the models they do.
I'm not super familiar with the IG codex vs the DKoK book, but I don't see why you couldn't just use them as regular guardsmen, as long as you made that clear to your opponent before the game. If you're looking to get a hold of the DKoK rules, though, I can, er, put you in touch with someone who might be able to, yknow, allow a digital version to find its way into your hands. Nuffink to do with me though...

I didnt like the rules for the Korps so I would love to use them as regular guardsmen,

Edit
Read now that the list is made for Korps siege regiments, and in the siege regiments seems to be special. Don't see any problems with a Korps mechanized or infantry regiment using chimeras etc. fluff wise
I'll just stay away from the Valkyries and other flying machines
Re: Death Korps of Krieg
DKoK have some unique models and gear that regular guard dont get, (Twin Linked Heavy Stubbers) for example. You can either just not buy them or use them as stand ins for heavy bolters.
Your best bet is to make a list using codex IG first and then start buying models to fill up that list. Once you have the list filled you can think about getting the more specialised stuff so that you can run them as true DK, or just keep them as standard IG.
The DKoK rules seem alright from what I have seen, they certainly have some interesting choices, but standard IG are a good solid army and you can easily use the DK range for it.
#edit# Looking over the DKoK list, it is out of date. The list is based on the 4th edition IG book, back when IG couldn't compete with most other armies. There is a newer (free and official) pdf put out by Forge World that brings the list into line with the current Codex IG. Its really small, only about 200Kb so I will sort out getting a copy to you. It is only the list though, you will still nedd the Imperial Armour book for the background.
Also, I see no reason why you can't use Valkyries etc if you want to. All IG forces would have access to them in limited numbers. If you aren't doing a siege army, you're fine.

Re: Death Korps of Krieg
another thing to remember is that there are over a million worlds out there so you can easily say that they are a different world's mechanized regiment which would give you room for more fluff
