Thanks Ten, these were a good read. I own some of those modules. Lost City and Keep on the Borderlands.
Like wise I've only played d and d basic a handful of times but I feel like I've played it more having overdosed on things like heroquest, advanced heroquest, Talisman, Cthulhu, Warhammer roleplay etc:

I remember "The Isle of Dread"! My buddy who was our DM (for everything!) was (and is) a natural storyteller and always made up his own stuff. I should get him to scan the old maps and things. He could draw too.

I never played much D&D in the first edition. I played a lot of AD&D though. I always liked the Underdark Campaign, though the Tomb of Horrors was good too. In D&D3.5 I played through Return To The Temple Of Elemental Evil, which was also a fun module to run through.

I played a bunch of these - I can't say I have a high regard for Keep on the Borderland (although I guess it was ok for beginners to learn the basics, which is what it is meant for) - having various monsters all living alongside each other in different caves never made much sense to me.
And I remember being bored out of my wits by Expedition to Barrier Peaks, despite the interesting idea of the abandoned space ship (I remember running down corridors, yelling *Hey Monsters, come out and get me!")
Some modules I did enjoy were "Desert of Desolation" modules (the first and second ones, I think), "The Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh", "The Dancing Hut" (I remember that tesseract dungeons were really big for a while after that one came out in the Dragon) and "Tomb of Horrors", which I dont think I lasted very long in.
