Re: What did you do today.

I almost started a new thread for this, but it's such a dead horse I figure folk would get annoyed if I went so far as to start flogging it again. I have to mention it, though, as my mind cannot contain all the bogglement it inspires.

Today, I was idly perusing miniature websites, as one does, and having just recently been endowed with a dollop of money courtesy of NOVA corp, I thought a wee tiny purchasey might not go amiss. I've been very good this year, and havent bought any mini related stuff at all since...oh, that Imbrian Arts kickstarter back in November or thereabouts. Anyway, I figure I've been a good boy and can buy myself a little something with a clean conscience. I've been reading the Malifaux rulebooks a bit recently, and also had a re-read of IA11 (the corsairs one), and am feeling quite keen to build a proper corsairs list that I can use with my two other pointy eared armies. I'm also quite keen on Mali just now.

Eldar, or Mali, Mali or Eldar, tumtetum, thinks I.

Well, sod it - Haven't had much eldar love for a while, so let's get a wee squad of those war walker thingies the corsairs use. Troops, vehicles and jump packs rolled into one. What's not to like...*MiJ pops over to the FW site to buy this one 3 model squad, which, let us remember, is only a small fraction of what is required to play an actual game...*

.
.
.

81 QUID!!!!! ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FRICKING MIND, FORGE WORLD??!??!?!?!?!?!
What's that you say? another 12 quid for shipping em to me?

Feck off.

*MiJ pops over to the Firestorm Games site*

I see. A whole new malifaux gang in that snazzy plastic stuff is...oh. 23 quid. Aha! But what if I were to buy every single possible model available for that particular crew. I bet that'd cost me. That's like, the equivalent of buying every single eldar model available for 40k...
Oh. That comes to 60 quid. I see. And you'll send it to me for free? Why thank you...

Un. Be. Liev. A. Ble.

I know I know GW are rip-off merchants of the highest order. I just...forgot. And was then reminded, forcibly.

I mean, I appreciate that there are more models in a 40k army compared to a malifaux gang, but what I'm asking myself is: why is that perceived as a good thing? Both games provide me with a couple of hours of fun. Both games provide me with more than enough minis to keep me painting until my fingers bleed, so where exactly is the benefit of selling my kidney to pay for a new unit for my 40k army?

Riddle me that, GW...

That's got to be the anecdote of the year.
Funny.
Yeah I haven't bought any minis for ages. Rpg books I have bought shelved and thought will I ever play on the other hand has gone way out of control.
I take it you went for the Malifaux.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

Let's not forget that this is Forge World we are talking about here. They are always going to be more expensive than nearly anything else that isn't super limited edition or from some tiny boutique company that makes super expensive resin minis themselves. Not trying to excuse it, just somewhat surprised at your surprise. :D

And yeah, Malifaux is awesome. :D

Today I did some more work on my terrain for NH. It's coming along nicely.

Indeed mate, indeed.

I played Inquisimunda with Konrad a while back. They have stats/rosters for you to make up a little gang of whatever you want. Had a great time playing a game that needs a fraction of the minis that 40K requires.

Inquisimunda
Kill Team
Combat Patrol

I reckon those three are the way forward mate. Affordable, fun, and as fluffy as you like.

Tonight I continue to work on my DAs. I'll enjoy a nice Belgian beer I picked up at the same time.

@ Konrad: Fabulous! You are a genius at this hobby. I can't wait to see it at Joshin!

Water, wet, news at 11.

I put the metal down on another batch of Iron Warriors, and finished up the bases on the next batch of minis to spray (another IW detachment, some 'stealers and some orks), which will get a coat of black in the morning.

Forge world is pricey. They have so many nice miniatures and that usually leads to me purchasing even if I can use it or not but with their prices, no way. Not sure if you are interested but I have two old lead war walkers and three lead eldar dreadnoughts plus a squad of scorpions up for grabs. I'd rather trade for space marine stuff or chaos stuff.

Today on the modelling side, I built a ruined building and it came out really nice. Just have to add windows and paint it up. Very pleased with it. And already have the plans for a large building in ruins which will go into production tomorrow. And painted some do dads to go on various parts of the SM army. And completed my 2000 point army list and tag team list.
The one, the only.

Putting foot to butt all over the universe.

This.

I've always prefered the skirmish level games to 40K for those reasons. Especially now that you have to drop a 100 bucks per unit.

And just on a lark lookit what Google found me-Kill team tournament rules from...GW no less! "...quick, small games can be just as much fun as larger battles..." . I bet whoever wrote that got canned.
