Crystal Brush 2013 winners

Post by me_in_japan » Mon Apr 22, 2013 12:02 am

Crystal Brush was held last weekend, and the winners are up on the site now. So, without any further ado, ready your brushes for pitching out the window, prepare your soul for feelings of artistic inadequacy, and click the link below :D

Very impressive. I'm sure the competition at NagoyaHammer will be equally intense. :D

Alright, maybe not quite, but please don't let these jaw-droppingly awesome minis put you off entering.

The moment I saw the winning entry, I said "Frenchman". :) Painters have such unique styles from country to country.

True, that. JBT is particularly distinctive, although Rusto (Italian) and Picster (not sure, but lives in Germany) are two other artists whose work you can pick out of a lineup.

Some WIP shots of the winning mini. Makes your brain go "nuuuur" with the amount of effort that must have gone into its creation...

I guess it isn't enough to be a world class painter, you also need to be a very skilled sculptor as well. I can't even begin to imagine the time and effort that must have taken.

Technically very good, but I don't like the composition. The miniature blends in to the background too much.

His problem is that his backgrounds are also so jaw dropping awesome that the awesomeness of the main figure blends into the awesomenormity of the entire piece. An artist about whom you can honestly say with no sarcasm, "His only problem is that he is too good." I spent 15 minutes just studying the bricks. Man has more awesomeinity in one brick than in my best fig.
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

It's not that. It's more that the figure is mostly black with blue highlights, and it's stood in front of a wall that's ... black with blue highlights.
