Today I...

walked into town for a shave at the barber's. Cutthroat razor and fire.

went for a kebab.

stopped for a few beers.

went for a swim.

had a kebab for dinner.

drank some Macallan.

watched England vs Scotland.

Excellent day.

Why the [expletive] didn't they use that sword earlier? Seriously, it seems like a much better option than the go-go-gadget rocket punch.
The only answer the film needs is "because it is a mecha vs. kaiju film," heh.

Wonder how long before the studios greenlight PR2?
I dunno, apparently its US box office numbers are lackluster enough that a sequel is not a given. Alas.

I read that although the US box office was a bit meh (31m), internationally it's doing rather well (110m), so a sequel may be a goer. Incidentally, did anybody else notice that the computer in the Jaegers is GlaDOs from Portal? I double checked, and apparently it actually is. Same voice actress and everything. Done deliberately. I thought that was rather cool. :)

Re: DIY carports - I did think of that, but what worries me is building it to a sufficiently high standard that when the first typhoon comes along it won't just blow over and land on my car. That would really suck :(

But seriously, everyone should go see Pacific Rim. It's worth the extra money for IMAX too.

(And to stop this being a complete derail, today I did some more work on my trolls and resisted, for one more day, ordering some very cool laser-cut plywood 6mm buildings from these guys.)

After work, I came home and did a bit of painting on some miscellaneous napoleonic models and am enjoying a Deschutes Chainbreaker IPA. It is glorious. :)

No real painting today as I have been busy. I did get everything packed and stowed for tomorrow though.

Today I did more house stuff, continued packing (getting worried about this now) and went to see the new Star Trek movie. It was ok. Better than WWZ, but not as good as Pacific Rim. These rankings are highly subjective, though, so by all means ignore em :)

Many thanks to Konrad for coming to Chez MiJ today for what was the last ever game of 40k (or indeed anything) at my current house. It was a fun, and actually quite close game of 40k, 2000pts a side. His army struggled to deal with all the high T units in my army (no, really) but nonetheless he almost pulled a draw, and with a couple of just above average rolls could've won. A fun game, though :)

incidentally, the game threw up a technical question.

in this kind of set up:

Dire Avengers------Deffkoptas------Wave Serpent

If the Avengers take 1 wound off one of the koptas (the one closest to them, of course) and the Wave serpent then shoots and takes another wound off, does that wound come off the kopta closest to the serpent, or the one which has already lost a wound? Either way, where in the rulebook is this situation covered? So far as I can see, option 1 is what the book says, but it seems extremely open to manipulation if the controlling player has a chance to cycle wounded models to the rear/centre of his unit. It'd be 5th ed wound allocation shenanigans all over again.

I don't have my rulebook in front of me right now, but I believe that you ALWAYS wound the closest model. (Except for Look Out Sir which let's you move wounds around). So if you shoot at a unit from opposite sides then wounds won't pass through the unit to already wounded models. When I have time I will look it up, but I think it is more a case of the rulebook DOESN'T say "wounded models get wounds applied first," so you just follow the rules for wound allocation as they are written every time.

So yes, you can cycle wounded models to the back of the unit for wound allocation shenanigans, but as it takes an entire movement phase to happen, it's nowhere near as bad as the 5th ed rule.

Thanks for the game MIJ. He is being a bit generous with his, "almost a draw" comment. It was more like, "Almost not a crushing defeat." But I didn't lose as bad as I thought I was going to turn 1 and 2.
I've already commented on the utter awesomeness of jetbikes. Let me comment on the awesomeness of Doomweaver artillery. 48" S6 AP6 Large blast, barrage, monofiliment, so Orks get hit by S7. 90 pts for a unit of 3.... auugh...... Good game, great board! We need to play Necromunda on it one of these days.
MIJ also introduced me to Battle for Alabaster. Plays something like Super Dungeon Explore plus Space Hulk but the bad guys can start infecting, mutating and controlling the good guys.
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....
