Cheers :)

I can't complain credit for it though as my mate introduced me to it.

Yes, there is a lot of GW bashing, but how much of it is deserved? I am one of the biggest bashers but even I will give credit where it is due. I actually posted that I quite liked some of the new Dark Elf releases even though I don't play WHFB.

If someone doesn't like to see the bashing they can simply not read the comments. If they are so sensitive that GW bashing is enough to make them stop posting, so be it. No great loss.

That is very true. While I still think a FPS will be fun, you are right in that it won't catch the essence of what Space Hulk is.

The developers probably want to appeal to a larger market than nostalgic GW fans. An FPS is probably the easiest way to introduce the game to a wider audience. It might not be exactly the same as the old board game, but dark, claustrophobic tunnels, blips on your motion tracker and frenzied attacks by genestealers should all help make the game somewhat Space Hulk-ish.

I can actually kind of understand why negativity can drive one away from a forum. The Studio McVey forum is one which I find myself frequenting less and less due to the amount of vitriol being spewed about CMoN's shortcomings. I've tried pointing out the good points of the game again and again, but it just gets drowned in the vast sea of entitlement angst. It got to the point where it ceased to be a Studio McVey/Sedition Wars discussion forum and became a "rant about CMoN and how the minis aren't like how you imagined they would be from the concept" forum. At this point I kinda see it as a waste of my time reading it.

Compared to that, Naghammer is the land of hugs and kisses. People will pan GW for specific bad business decisions/ poor mini design, but it's always accompanied by some sort of justification, and as Spev has said, we're generally happy to give credit where it's due.

Re: computer games - I appreciate that it's not all GWs fault if the big studios don't want to use the IP. The blame lies with the studio, as I alluded to in my earlier post. You mentioned that they might not want to buy the IP for a board game from the 80s, and I do fear that's how GW may have pitched it. The Space Hulk IP is not a board game from the 80s. It's a claustrophobic squad based 1st person shooter set in a dark and gothic deep space cruiser inhabited by the most deadly swarm of predators known to man. If pitched properly it should be a gimme for any decent company. One bright point is that the developers are using the Unreal engine. This is generally pretty solid.

You're assuming then that GW have no idea how to sell a game. Maybe they pitched it exactly as you described and all the big developers filed it away with all the other failed pitches in a folder titled "Doom Clone."

Spev's first post - whilst unnecessarily graphic - was pretty positive, but by and large, the NagoyaHammer forums are a tad cynical. I'm as much to blame as anyone else, so no fingers are being pointed here. Maybe you haven't noticed, but there aren't so many people posting regularly these days. Maybe everyone is busy or they have nothing to say, but there are fewer people taking the time and effort to post meaningful comments.

Personally, I'm going to wait and see what kind of game we get in Deathwing before I pass judgement on it or the skills of the developers.

Hey! I don't know how your smutty mind works, but I was just so gosh darn excited that the only way I could express said excitement was via the happy medium of tent pitching!!

I think it is a combination of things to be honest. Yes, there is some cynicism, but not an overwhelming amount in my opinion. Anyone who lets what little cynicism there is get to them is probably better off keeping away from the internet in general as there is a lot worse out there. Let them spend 5 minutes on Frothers and watch them coming running back to the safe haven that is NagHammer.

I for one have been to busy to game recently. I know MiJ is probably a lot busier than me.

If someone finds all the supposed negativity too much for them, why not start there own more positive threads?

I've been in a somewhat reflective mood these past few days, and have kinda decided to try to improve myself. I'm gonna go to bed earlier and get more sleep*, study Japanese every night for at least 30 mins (more if I can) and really take the time to do my best on 1mini so I can be proud of it. I would be happy to add "be more positive in my Naghammer posts" to that list if people wanted :)

Personally, I've been rather short of time (observant readers will notice most of my posts have been made during the day recently. These are generally typed on my phone in one hand while I eat my lunch with the other. I have no time in the evening for such things.) I daresay others are just as busy.

One thing I've noticed is less posting of WIPs of minis. What happened to the painty threads? I'd post myself, but one more de-mould-lined defiler leg ain't so exciting. How about some quick snaps of your painty area at the end of the day? Phone pics are fine :) I don't mean this negatively - tis just an idea for keeping everyone posting stuff and generating comment :)

*this was rather scuppered last night by the tag team of Sean and Noah. I must awoken up about 4 or 5 times last night, and finally came to at 6:50 lying on Sean's bedroom floor where I'd passed out trying to get him to sleep. He, of course, was snoring away happily...

@Spev - No, that was exactly what I was referring to. I don't need the image of you, out in a field with a mallet and tent pegs when I am trying to get ready for work in the morning. Far, far too much for that time of the day. :)

Yeah - the "absolutely 100% faithful to the original" game on Steam Spev linked to earlier, while generally well-received, did get a lot of middling reviews saying basically that that faithfulness really limited what the game could have been.

Besides, since said game does exist, who'd need another?

That's what I heard too. Also it wasn't anything too impressive graphically speaking.
