If you don't stick with corsairs, me and my orks will have to find a new partner for NH

I'm a bit vexed that as soon as I invest heavily (time and money) into corsairs they pull the rug out from under them with the new codex and basically render the corsairs unplayable (trust me on this - rules anomalies abound.) I can either shelve the corsairs, play crafties and have a slick, playable army that is full of win, or I can stick to my guns, spend ages painting up the corsairs and spend 50% of the time in every game looking up rules across a codex, IA 11, IA apocalypse, IA Aeronotica, the 2 relevant FAQs and the FW update for their psykers. And no, those rulebooks do not all agree. Oh, and they nerfed the hell out of their vehicles, too, while they were at it
If one were to imagine that the other books didn't exist, does the Corsairs book contain enough rules to play the army by itself?

@MIJ- you are thinking to hard again. Paint the toys you like, find convenient rules later. I mean, elves are elves, just use the convenient rules in the Eldar Dex and say "Arrr matey." every now and again. (Or for Eldar, it would be more of a "Yoohoo, sweetie! I've unfurled my mizenmast....")
@Prim-is it too early to start the trash talk thread?

's OK - I'll stick with the corsairs. Last night I had been looking through my minis, checking the net and looking at rules, and it became abundantly clear to me what a pita FW rules are. I was tired and it bugged me, so I vented. In my defense, how hard can it be to have someone at FW just collate the various rules and whip up a page reference/rules update cheat sheet? Heck, that's what I'm going to do, and I'm just this guy, you know? They have an entire room full of people who do that kinda thing all day for their job. They can't spare a couple of hours to whip up a PDF? Bah.

@Prim - as with all things FW, the answer is "sorta but not really". IA 11 frequently references the Eldar dex. Eg as an elites choice Corsairs can take a unit of crafty elites or FA.

A bigger issue is the fact that when the IA 11 was published the corsairs had better stats than guardians, and cost a little more points. Now they're significantly crapper than guardians and still cost more points, just cos nobody at FW has bothered their arse to fix it. This is one example amongst many. (Shuricats with no blade storm is another example.) The new eldar dex updated a lot of fundamental eldar stuff, from the stat line to the standard weapon to army-wide USR, leaving the corsair list floundering like a wounded duck. All it would take is a few lines in a PDF to fix it (shuriken catapult: see codex eldar, change corsair unit entry to include +1WS, battle focus and scared of Slaanesh, bring corsair vehicles in line with codex eldar ones.) That's all it would take. For casual games I have every intention of asking my opponent to allow me to do just that, but for Naghammer I'm bollixed.

Righty!

I've had my coffee and feel much better now :) I've decided to stop whining about corsairs, man up and just paint the buggers and be damned. If their stats suck, if they're over costed, if their rules are harder to negotiate than the famed tunnels 'o Crete, then so be it. I has my space elf ninja pirates, and come golden week they'll be comin' atcha!

Aaaaaaaarrrrr, me sweeties!

Peter Venkman. I stand corrected.

Which brings me to my next question. What kind of day would you rather have?
A Peter Venkman kind of day or a BA Barracus of a day? Having a BA of a day usually means a heavy going day. Peter Venkman would be a plain sailing kind of day.
Brian Blessed? A drunk day maybe.

BA all the way. Perhaps with a splash of Brian Blessed for good measure.

I suppose it would depend on if I was planning on flying that day.

Venkman for me. I love a plain-sailing kinda day. Feels like the plan is finally starting to come together :)
