What is Warmachine?

Warmachine is a skirmish sized miniatures fantasy combat game. There are currently 6 factions.

Khador (red rooskies)
Menoth (purge the heretics!)
Cygnar (hi-techy types. Lightning features prominently)
Cryx (undead/techdead/witches/zombie pirates. the Bad Guys, in other words.)
Scyrah (Look like WHFB elves/40k Eldar, but with the mindset of 40k SoB)
Mercs (um, mercs. can be added to other factions or played by themselves.)

There are several principle differences between the game and, say, 40k.

1) Warcasters (the army general) are key.
If they die, you lose.
You can usually only have one or two, depending on game size.
They are usually very powerful.

2) Warjacks.
These come in two flavours - big and not-so-big.
They are pretty hard to kill, and do plenty of damage.
They can "link" to your warcaster, alloing them to do fancy sTUFF.

4) Unlike most of 40k, synergy is a big thing. Think Magic the Gathering.

Models are 30mm scale

It has a sister game, Hordes, where big hairy beasties take the role of the Warjacks. The games use the same rules (largely) and are thus interchangeable.

Set in the fantasy world of the Iron Kingdoms. Its rather steampunk (i.e. steam based technology plus magic.) Hordes is set in the same world, just a bit further inland.

Based on a 2d6 system. (e.g. roll 2D6 and add you attack power)

Popular with the Japesese players in Nagoya, and is gaining popularity with the gaijin.

Minis cost about the same as GW ones, with the advantage that an army is usually a good deal smaller.

Currently, PP are re-doing the codexes (Forces of Warmachine:ARMYNAME books.) In January of this year they released Prime Mk II (the base rulebook).

The minis are ace.

Anyways, enough from me, check them out:

I am well keen to get in to this game at least the Hordes models are very cool... can we move the chatter about how the retailers work to a different thread. So I can focus on the game related stuff...

Hi everyone,

I have discovered this game in the last two-three months, but I really love it. It´s funny, relatively easy to play and with lot of tricks and tactics. At the moment I play Retribution and my wife Cryx, and some times we have meetings with more people in Okayama. In total, we are about 7-8 players (Menoth, Cryx, Cygnar, Mercenaries, Khador and Retribution). We will also try hordes soon, using Trolls.

This is my blog

there are some pictures and one battle, is in Spanish but I will add more information in English

See you soon,

Hi Javier,

I just got into Warmachine myself (Khador). Its a fun game and plays very quickly. Hopefully we'll do a Warmachine event some time in the near future, because I am keen to meet new players.

If you know players in Okayama, please let them know about this board so we can exchange tactics and army ideas with them.

Regards,
Primarch (aka Stuart)

Hey Javier!

I love the colors you used for Cryx! The same as Cygnar. Brilliant! I'm looking forward to what you do with your Retribution, since that's what I play too!

(I tried to type that out with my Spanish, and completely failed. I should go back and study it again D= )

Thanks people,

Yes it will be nice to have some event in the future, of course I don´t have the level to play Warmachine like a professional :D (sure I still doing lots of mistakes with rules), but if there is some tournament I will join for sure, just for funny and to meet more players here in Japan. And yes, I think some people from Okayama-Hiroshima would like to join too (Danguinius for sure).

I will add more pictures of my painted retribution army in the blog, and ennui, my wife is painting Cryx army so I will tell her that you like colours, she will be happy.
