New Tyranids
New Tyranids
Hey everyone, the new codex is out! And some of you actually play bugs!
I've taken a peek and it seems like it would be fun to play against. Not sure how much fun it would be to play with.
I do like the idea of running big bugs and screening them with little bugs and a venomthrope for a 3+ cover save.
Is anyone excited to take their Tyranids off the shelf?

Re: New Tyranids
Given that my enthusiasm for 40K is at an all time low at the moment, no, I'm not that excited.
Pros: Most units got cheaper. New bugs look ok.
Cons: Most units got worse. New bugs are extortionately priced.
Hopefully the IG will be fun to play, because the Nids just seem like way too much effort right now.

Re: New Tyranids
Well, I haven't been that interested in them since 6th edition came out, since I prefer to play them as an Assault army and that doesn't work so well right now.
But, since the new codex didn't change that, and things aren't likely to improve anytime soon, I am going to try them out soon and see what they can do!
I am not interested in buying the overpriced new models just to make my army moderately more competitive. I will consider proxying them if I come across anything suitable - unlikely but I may find something, this is Japan after all!

What can the bugs field as a superheavy? Anything goes in 40K these days, right? I have an Alien model, 'bout a foot tall you can have cheap. Counts as a .........?The Underdweller wrote:

Bugs do get a few superheavy. The cheapest is about 500 - 600 points and has a worse statline than a wraithknight...Konrad wrote:What can the bugs field as a superheavy? Re: New Tyranids
Maybe you ought to just play your bugs as using the prancy-poncy dex. Gaunts=Guardians, (no wait, they are BS/WS 4 now ain't they? ) Genestealers=Scorpions , Trygon=Wraithknight, Carnifexes=Wraithlords etc etc. Then you could use the allies to mix and match other codices as you need. Re: New Tyranids
The superheavy is the Harridan I think. Giant flying creature, fires a load of S10. Don't know how well it plays.
I've been looking at biovores, tyrannofexes, and mawlocs as worthwhile. Of course, I just got a bunch of Meganob-equivalents from Kromlech which can tear up the big bugs pretty well. Looking forward to getting those built.
Playing counts-as elves could actually be pretty funny. Mycetic spore as a wave serpent? Doom of Malantai as Eldrad?

Re: New Tyranids
Playing nids as 'dar would confuse the heck out of everyone, but could totally make for some fun conversions. Floaty/skimmery tentacle beasts could be ace. The Zerg heavy flyers spring to mind.
Ps if you buy a nid super heavy, make sure it's the hierophant. That model is by far the best nid model out there, and is pure awesome sauce. Does it play well? I have no idea. Does it cost a kidney and most of your liver? Yes, but it's a bloody brilliant model.

Re: New Tyranids
Great idea, Konrad! I think I'll play my Nids as Eldar and field some Space Marines to proxy as Imperial Guard allies. Winning through confusion will be my new devious strategy.
(And yes, MIJ, the hieorphant looks pretty cool. Next time I inherit money from my long lost Aunt I will look into buying one!)
