New Starter Set?

Certainly looks like the only unique sculpts in there are the two HQs (which are nice in any case).
To be honest I can make use of everything in there.

Supposedly, GW are going to keep making themed battle sets featuring two armies as a regular thing. They will be limited release and contain mainly regular kits with one or two special characters. That's what BoLS is spouting anyway.

Honestly, I'm a little disappointed.

A warboss with neither bike nor mega armor? Already have one from black reach, do not need another. A box of naked nobs on foot? Again, covered.
There are no boyz at all, though I suppose I could make use of the grots.

The space wolves seem fine, though they're going to get a new codex soon anyway so It's hard to say what units you want. That being said, a wolf lord, some grey hunters, and some terminators can't go too far wrong.
As an ork box though, I am not really interested.

I think to a certain extent one must bear in mind that this box, like all multi-faction starter sets in this world, are not really aimed at any of us. They are, by definition, starter sets, so their sole intent is to get new players playing with the bare minimim of minis and rules. Hence two opposed but roughly equal factions, and one small-size rule book. If existing players pick it up too then of course GW won't complain, but they're not target audience and shouldn't expect to be treated as such. That's what FW and new codex releases are for.

I think GW have learned a lesson in that respect, they don't want you to be able to buy more cheap boyz from your mates or from ebay that they don't sell.

Sadly, that does make a lot of sense, in a the bass-ackwards twisted funhouse mirror universe that is marketing, sort of way.

Thoughts, all?

I prefer it to the other marine flyers, actually. It has that "I fly in defiance of aerodynamics" style that the imperials love so much. Like, if it wanted to it could ram greater daemon of Khorne and win.

It's another box with wings sorta thing, as all the other marine fliers seem to have been. It's a very cool and badass looking box though, isn't it?
