No hobby stuff today really. I made some headway with a book Spevna lent me about the 1st Crusade, worked an 8 hour class and went to see Maleficent at the cinema. The audience was about 90% women with all the men looking like they had been dragged there by their significant other. Honestly, I really enjoyed the movie. Great visuals, good acting all round, the music was fantastic and the writers did themselves proud with their new take on the old Sleeping Beauty story. I thoroughly recommend it. Plus the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy was on before the film and that looks awesome!

Hope you enjoy the book. Bit of a slog with all those poncy Frankish and Norman names, but Asbridge makes it all quite easy to digest.

8 hour class? Well done mate! Those can be tough, eh. Emails? Telephone? Presentations?

And actually I am off to Maleficient tomorrow. Now I am looking forward to it. Cheers :D

Finished the ongoing task of stripping and adding a lick of paint to some boys. The kind with a z on the end, before you balk in horror. I took the 90 or so that I bought from the Madmiral, and stuck them in simple green for a couple of weeks (brown dettol in the UK is superior, no question, but doesn't seem to exist here). After a light toothbrush scrubbing, some bits had fallen off. So, a rinse, and a night of reassembly, and assembly of a few extra boyz to bulk the squads to 30s of both flavours. Then, finally, tamiya matt red last night. I had to take a quick photo. They look transformed and spanking new!

After factoring in some very nicely painted orks I bought from Konrad recently, things are looking impressive. I seem to have about 100+ of the buggers now, 2x squads of 30 choppa/slugga, one squad of 30 shoota, as well as nobs for each, 4 missiles, 3 big shootas and change, so a waaagh is looking very possible. I do need to sort out this hobbyists butterfly brain though and stick with one project for a while. I am thinking I'll continue undercoating orky stuff red as and when (and play it as is for now) whilst actually taking something else to completion (so, Saga, or Ronin, or Wolves... :? )

Today I finished up 3 bases of 10mm goblin infantry and 2 of elves with spears, plus 2 goblin heroes. No luck on priming the next batch, what with the weather and laundry out while it wasn't raining, so hopefully in the morning. Set to prime are 6 bases of horsemen and 2 of elves with bows. I also have to spray-glue some bits of foamcore I've prepped to mount a couple epic-scale buildings on.

Got busy again today. My space wolf drop pods are about 90% done, inside and out. Mostly dry brushing, but experimental use of Tamiya weathering kits worked nicely on the hulls and on the ramps. That final 10% is a bit of a headscratcher as I feel they need something more (decals? An accent colour?) but I haven't decided what yet. Overall I'm ery happy with them though, certainly better than ok for the table top.

Did up a couple of bases of horsemen for 10mm Middle-Earth, mostly to sort of see if the scheme I was thinking of would work.

Yup, looks OK and not too tricky (the bases will get flock). 4 more bases, and 2 of elven archers, waiting to get painted up.

Getting up at stupid o' clock tomorrow to get a flight to Frankfurt, then Manchester, England. Should be at my parent's place with my wife and squalling youngster before midday. The trip will take in 6 nights in London. Woo hoo.
I will do my best not to pick up any new space wolf fliers while I'm there.

Have a safe trip!

Yesterday I finished reading Spev's book about the first crusade. If I didn't already have a dozen projects underway.... One more to put on the list I guess.
Painting wise, I was able to grab a little time witha brush yesterday after work. I did a little work on an IG tank and then put the base colour down on some more Ashigaru and a Russian KV-1 heavy tank. This was followed with an early night and then up at 5 this morning. Yawn.
