For the first time in over 2 weeks I did something hobby wise. I built three dropships for DZC. I had to halt for the night as my "hobby room" or rather the north room is serving as bedroom too now as it is cooler.

Unlike the other IG vehicle choices so far, the basilisk kit comes with quite a few neat, optional bits but no instructions on where to put them. So I'm forced to use my imagination for once (gasp!).

In other news, I finally got around to buying a local phone. I also ordered a battlefoam bag during the July 4 sale, but it hasn't even shipped yet. Likewise, my raging heroes troops won't ship for a few months yet.
Those basilisks are scary pieces of equipment on the field. BOOM indeed. :o ... :)

A shame your girls won't arrive soon.
The basilisk just looks fantastic to me - it's the iconic IG vehicle in my mind, more so than the tanks or chimeras. Who doesn't like a gigantic gun? It's too bad the heavy support slot has a lot of other good options though. A proper leman russ battle tank is only 25 points more for AV 14. Now that everything is scoring, I feel like parking a basilisk in the backfield is not the best use of points.
Heavy Support for me: Wyverns (auto-include in any list), Leman Russes (probably Eradicator and/or Demolishers), Manticore/Basilisk/More Tanks

Switched gears and built the last of the AMD-35 Panhards for my FoW EW project. I think I'll try to knock out the EW stuff and take sizable chunk out of DSC stuff this month.

Having faced a parked Basilisk in my game with Komura and Konrad, it is a very scary thing :o It certainly causes units to seek cover which means you can have some certainty of where the enemy will move on turn 1 and 2. During the game I was just praying to the two remaining Eldar gods for the thing to scatter off target ;)

But you are right, parking it in the backfield does risk losing it too deep strikers. :(

One of those beasts was bad enough in our game, but it got its just desserts (ie, pretty much what you mention above in reference to risk happened) I have the AM/IG codex and will do them down the line, but want to make a more mobile version if that's viable. Probably do-able but I haven't given much thought to it.

Today we are all pretty jet-lagged still. Waking and sleeping at odd times in this vile heat. The only hobby I did was using birthday money from my dear silver-haired mother in ordering up some long needed storage trays to keep my minis tidier. Watched a film by Ben Wheatley (also did Sightseers and A Field In England) called Kill List. Initially it seemed to be a Mike Leigh-ish kitchen sink drama, then it morphed ito a dark comedy thriller, and finally I realised it was a horror movie. I liked it (actually, liked may not be the right word), disturbing though, certainly. One of those movies which seems to divide opinion.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to run a field trial on the basilisks this weekend at Kuwana and see for myself. 8-)

I had a bit of homework and studying to do today in preparation for a test tomorrow, so I didn't get any hobby work done. On the bright side, my battlefoam bags shipped today. It would be nice if they arrived in time for the weekend, but I'm not holding my breath.

No painting or geekery recently, but look at what I found in a box at my mom's.

Lots of modeling these past few weeks.

I built a new Deff Dread. Not a great unit but he should be fun to play along with my kanz and gorkonaut.

I got one of the overpriced mek gun kits. Came with lots of grots, and most of it was easy to magnetize. I ended up just wiring on the tractor cannon ring thingy with a stripped twisty tie. I want some more of these but the price seems unconscionable.

I made some tankbusters by using up all the leftover rokkit launchers from all the Ork Boy sprues I collected over the past few years. I'm looking forward to pressing my Ammo Grot models into service as bomb squigs.
Also pictured are the two meks I magnetized. Originally there was one mek but I stretched the parts into two. This way I can run some meks with or without expensive special weapons.

Painting all this is going to take a while...

I have done nothing hobby related for about 6 weeks. Too hot to sit in my den and paint.

I did however back the new Mantic Kickstarter. Looks like a fun dungeon crawl. Im hoping for loads of freebies too :)
