The manticore seems the more sensible choice, and one you'd use more, definitely, but I really like the idea of using the deathstrike for the slow countdown to doom comedy potential! It seems slightly better in the new codex if I remember right. Dekana's tutorial post is pretty useful since it could be a way to have your modelling cake and eat it.

Today was mainly spent working, but I did manage to assemble a few samurai minis after I came home.

Currently I am using Perry Bros and Wargames Factory minis for my samurai army and I have to say that one of the two is absolute dross.

Perrys SUC.... Kidding.

Wargames Factory's samurai range is dreadful. The details are barely noticeable on a lot of the surfaces, the minis don't fit together well at all and there are no instructions, so you are left trying to figure out which of the twenty arms go with which of the other twenty to make a pose that can actually hold the correct weapons. Top it off with the fact that the spear shafts are too wide to go into the minis hands without bending the thumbs out of the way and then bending them back AND that the plastic used to make the minis doesn't work well with polystyrene cement (bits fall off constantly) and you can see why I am on here ranting. Grrr!!!

Lesson learnt. Perry minis or nothing from here on in.

I had a similarly frustrating experience with Wargame Factory zombies. I wanted a horde of them for Strange Aeons, so bought a box on a whim at some convention - after opening them up, I realised the detailing was non-existant, plastic poor quality, didn't take paint well even after washing the sprues. I persevered, but after painting up a couple, they looked abysmal (not because of my painting on this occasion).
To date they are the only models I have ever just binned outright.
Buying Perry instead will not be something you regret I'm sure, can't go wrong really.

Today I painted some more Ashigaru and Samurai. I'm getting pretty sick of painting all the lace on the armour, but I need to get them all done by the end of the month.
After that I watched some Futurama and assembled a few Celts.

Gamed with Voss today. And tonight I did some highlights on the Panhards.

Finished up some more buildings last night - after the base of 'em I'm working on now, I think I'll switch to trees for a bit. (Partly because I ran out of the texture medium I'm using for my buildings, and it looks like the manufacturer straight-up stopped making it. Bother.)

Yesterday, met ex co-workers to play Mario Kart 8 and a bit of PS3 Farcry co-op with pizza and beer. Haven't had much chance to console it up recently, so it was a nice change.
Did a few more Grey Hunters. I've been painting to a planned 1000 point list with the old Space Wolves codex, made a similar list with the new book and realised that I'll have to change things around and paint and assemble a few more minis. In the list, I've managed to squeeze in 2 Rune Priests (cheapest HQ), 2 pods of 2x Melta toting Grey hunters, a podded Murderfang, 2 small Long Fang Units with 3 missiles a piece. Rune Priests can buff the Long Fangs I think. Probably not that balanced, it seems like an army where you just have to get stuck in and wreck stuff, but it'll be a laugh to play I think.

More work on the current batch of ashigaru today. They are steadily creeping towards completion.

Woke up late, did a tiny bit of work on the Panhards, and came to Ichinomiya to watch the fireworks. Felt like summer.

Today I played with my nephew through out the day, but I was able to assemble 16 Victrix French when I got home.
