Re: What did you do today.

Today I put the final coats of paint on some D&D figures by Reaper and a Russian Truck and Jeep by Tamiya. The D&D minis now have sand on their bases, so I will leave them to dry overnight and paint/flock the bases tomorrow. By my reckoning I should overshoot my target of 500 minis by a small margin. However, as some of the D&D figures are the bad guys for a game on Jan 4th, I can't post pictures of them till after the game. I don't want the heroes to have too much of a clue what they will be facing. (Cue evil cackling).

Once the bases are done I'll get photos of the rest posted up.

Some of my minis from November (which I think I didn't post before) and December.

Some more peasants and some Samurai.

And Kuroda Nagamasa (in the balck armour) and some attendants.

Plus the aforementioned Russian Truck and Jeep.
Image
The Truck is a Russian 1.5 ton Cargo Truck Model 1941, a stripped down version of a truck produced by a Russian firm based on a license from an American company. Angular fenders, cloth doors, only 1 headlight, no front brakes and a largely wooden framework meant that it was cheap and easy to produce.
Image
The Jeep is a Russian GAZ-67B Field Car. After the Russians obtained samples of the US Jeep, they worked to adapt it to Russian conditions. After a design-to-production period of just 51 days, the GAZ-64 was made. Based on feedback from the frontlines, several changes were made to the engine and steering, resulting in the GAZ-67. In 1944, the radiator was enlarged and a tow hook was added to create the GAZ-67B.
Image
Russian vehicles were generally a dark green. In winter a coat of white water based paint or lime dissolved in water was applied as camouflage. The dirt was an optional extra. :D

I finished up those leman russ weapons, so my tanks are about finished for now. I still need to add decals (will do later) and some weathering (which I have no interest in doing at the moment). I suppose there's always room for improvement, but I want to move on to other things - like my infantry, which I finally have in hand. :D

Thanks to MiJ and Satoru San for a great day of gaming. Good company and fine ale.
We managed 3 games of X Wing and 2 games of Infinity. And you heard it here first folks, I drew one game of X Wing and won both games of Infinity! Unheard of. I feel 2015 might be a good year for gaming.
Thanks for the wonderful day and hospitality at Chez Boyle. My wife and son enjoyed their trip their also :)
Cheers.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

And many thanks to you, good sir :) (and the inimitable Satoru-san, too, of course.) Today was my first game of X-wing, and it actually does live up to the hype. Great game, easy to learn, hard to master. Lots of pew-pew noises and Star Wars quotes are vital* Must...resist...buying...more...games...

Infinity is also a lot of fun, albeit today's game was infinity-lite. Rulebook arrived today, though, so I'll get to reading up properly in the next few days :)

* hey hey! My phone auto-capitalises Star Wars. How well trained is that?!

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

@Prim, well done on the Samurai and vehicles, I have already seen the former in action, and I particularly like the weathering and crud on the Russian stuff. Do you use anything special?

@Ashmie and MiJ, I have heard nothing but good stuff about X-Wing. I am basically a can-take-it-or-leave-it type when it comes to Star Wars (the recent movies really blotted the copy book), but that game looks like a real solid-gold corker. I may give infinity a try one of these days an' all.

Last couple of days no progress on the good Colonel. Went to an ex-work colleague/good pals house for belated Xmas dinner with his wife and in-laws on 28th, very nice..7 of us including the baby. I brought Ticket to Ride: Europe to play, which was a hit even with none gamers who expected (literally) Monopoly. Hopefully it opened their eyes. My wife likes TtR too, I definitely recommend it, but choo choo noises are practically mandatory.

Later today, off to Fukui-ken for 4 days with the in-laws for New Year. Luckily I will have my ipad and 4 unread Osprey books on to stave off the madness.

@ Prim: nicely done. Like the mud on the windshield. 8 more!
@ Dekana: well done.
@ Lovejoy: Ticket to ride, both editions, are great.

The last two days I've been in Fukui. I'm with the in-laws enjoying the onsen in southern Echizen. We'll be doing some exploring, castles and such. Of course coupled with a cold I had a few days back, this means no progress on the hobby front. When I do get back tonight I'll probably set some time off for working on the Panther and daemons.

Thanks guys. The dirt on the tires is GW Stirland Mud with a light brown drybrush.

Today I am off to ...er Fukui (seems like a popular spot this year), to see the in-laws, eat crab, drink beer and relax for a couple of days. I'm going to load up the smart phone with PDFs and do some reading.

Cover the children's eyes!

Got some paint on the Diggaz, finally. The Shaman needs a bit of work, but is 90% done. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. Nothing like a pro, but compared to stuff made 20 years ago, they would be almost not crappy. Got some ideas for the next couple and they should be better.

Going to get to work on the Trukk next.
@Prim- love the trucks and jeeps!

Yea! Yea! Yea! Shake Shake! I think you just activated the red neck American in me. You did great with them. I almost missed the bang up job on the bases too. I also like the striped tatoo touch on the backs, but just pure admiration at that work of art on her behind. Sure to make our wives angry with jealousy if they see it.

Great work Konrad. All that time spent 'researching female anatomy' on the web has really paid off.

Today I got the bases finished on my last models for the year.

From left to right. Gnome Bard, Elf Druid, Human Rogue, Half-Orc Barbarian, Elf Rogue, Human Barbarian, Dwarf Wizard, Dwarf Rogue.
There are some more minis that I will post after the D&D game in the new year to avoid spoiling anything for my group, however, I did have one interesting problem while painting them. One of the models needed a black wash, so I grabbed a pot of nuln oil and washed it carefully.
This was the result:

Those light grey patches. Nuln Oil.
Turns out when you get to the bottom of the GW washes they don't always dry correctly. Watch out if you are near the end of a pot. :D
