me_in_japan wrote:no hobby for me for a while. Been hella busy with work, and the family all have a cold, so evenings have been spent either doing house stuff or unwinding with Skyrim. Tomorrow, I go to Canada for 10 days for work (bringing 12 students with me, no other teachers. Never been to Canada before. Hope all is ok...) so i doubt there will be much hobby until I get back. I'm bringing some paints and minis anyway, in the offchance :) I also plan to do a looooot of reading, which is something I dont get much chance to do at home, so it hopefully wont be a complete write off.

If anybody happens to know any good hobby shops in Vancouver, I'm all ears, btw :)

So, I shall be in touch once I land, I spose. See yez later :)
Sorry, that is the wrong end of the country for me... I lived in Vancouver for about a year and a half, actually, but I was more into beer than gaming at the time, and hadn't started miniature gaming at all.

I was going to recommend a second hand bookstore that had a great comic book selection, but upon googling I found it closed down 2 years ago.

So, my advice is, make sure to buy an umbrella. You can buy large pieces of pizza on Granville street for only a dollar or two. Try to visit the Rocky mountains, they are amazingly beautiful. Avoid East Hastings Street. Have fun!

Consider all that seconded. (But it's the Cascades not Rockies) Vancouver is just a hop skip and jump across the border from my home town eh. Sorry, I was always to busy avoiding East Hastings to find any good game shops.

Scary orks Admiral! Things with more limbs than they ought to have have always given me the fear.
Last few days spent baby sitting ichi nensei exams and watching youtube documentaries at work. Watched a lot of piratical and French Indian War stuff, all useful (I tell myself) as both are things I'll hopefully game in future.
Off for a stretch now. Watched an old episode of Rainbow with Louis . He seems to dig George the Hippo a lot. Now packing in earnest for move on the 27th.

Well, I'm safely arrived in the land of maple syrup, and indeed, ame ha mucho furimasu, as they say. It's a kinda inoffensive rain, though, so it's ok. So far I have eaten: 1 Peruvian sandwich (bloody good) for lunch, and my host family welcomed me into their home with ribs for dinner. Nae complaints from me regarding Canadian food. Tomorrow, it'll be the first day at the study centre, then peace arch park. Things seem fine. The only difficulty I foresee is maintaining the pretence that I'm a pleasant, sociable person, when in fact I am an antisocial git. Hey ho. One day down, 9 to go...
current (2019) hobby interests

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

Hey, hey, that sounds like me at my job, but I've never managed 10 days in a row, so best of luck. :D You mentioning the rain makes me homesick.

Last night I accomplished some 40 minutes of painting burning the midnight oil.

Today I'm touring Ichijodani with the inlaws. It makes me want to make some Perry samurai minis.
