Idle day chat topic: Your favorite model (40,000)

Post by job » Wed Mar 25, 2015 6:47 am

Well, maybe some of you are typically busy on a weekday, but I am kind of idle as I wait for the Mac store to say my reservation time has come up. Spring is struggling to throw off the yoke of winter, and we all start to have dreams of Nagoya Hammer. Maybe you are busy at the work bench with some new models.

The question is what is your favorite 40k model? Probably you have a few, but see if you can answer with your top one.

Personally, maybe I should answer with something more iconic like a marine or terminator or the beautifully designed Helbrute model in the Dark Vengance set, but for me something else beckons.

I'll never get to own one in all probability, but I love the Chaos Warhound Titan from Forgeworld. Something about the ludicrous size both in the fiction and on the table, the composition between a figure out of the Classic 40k pages and the uber-High Gothic fantasy style, it just gets my imagination juices flowing and gets me all excited to play or hobby the game. Truth is I've never played with it nor owned one, but the fact it is almost out of reach for me gives it a literal intangible quality.

Just thinking about it gets me wanting to yell, "Death to the False Emperor! Let the Galaxy Burn!" :D :D :D

Can't say as it's my favourite, but one mini that I think sums up 40k is this one:

All alone against the darkness...

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

The classic beak-nosed space marine certainly has a certain nostalgia about it for me from spending so much time assembling those first plastic models. Certainly if I think 40K, those are the first thing that springs to mind (along with the classic plastic genestealer!).

More recently, if I stick to things I've owned/own, the SoB penitent engine - although a giant lead nightmare to build and pin together - has that certain dark gothic-ness that could only be 40K combined with the blocky ugliness that could only be made by the Imperium!

I'm sure there are much nicer models out there, I'm just not familiar enough with them all....

This;

He reminds me of the very first White Dwarf I ever bought, issue 122. There was a Wayne England painting of a terminator on the front that looked a lot like him.

He looks a bit dated now, but whenever I look at him I remember being 12 and flicking through White Dwarf in W.H Smiths.
