The vampire coven -W.I.P

Post by jus » Tue Aug 17, 2010 12:21 pm

Herein lies several pictures of my newly converted blood knights, from gamezone's fantastic mournful knights range using GW bits all over the place. Still very much a work in progress but here is the VAMPIRE COVEN of the count of.....Monte Cristo (real name pending)

enjoy and comment yoroshiku

Looking good man.
I love the conversions. They look much nicer than GW's Blood Knights.

Noice! Gamezone does have a fantabulous range.

thanks guys,

Thank heavens there are many competent miniature companies out there that can supplement a vampire counts army with nice vampire models, so one doesn't have to rely on GW's INFERIOR STOCK.
they are really nice models but if anyone is thinking of getting gamezone beware, gamezone miniatures are known for their huge gaps and misshapen casts that make them notoriously difficult to put together. These mournful knights took alot of filing down and what not. Also, trying to stand a metal horse on one leg on base without snapping if off at the hoof was a trial of patience and blood sweat. now comes the ultimate question, should I prime them white ...or black??

also here's the model I'm going to use as my varghulf. Supposedly a vampire who has given over to the beast within and become a werewolf/bat thing

He's actually a wolfen model from the rackham range. I good deal smaller than GW's hideous bat vampire gone rabid.

sorry GW, the werewolf looks so much cooler.

Ayuh. Wolfen (not to mention Devourers) were some of the coolest things about Rackham's Confrontation range.

looovely stuff. As ToD says, Wolfen are always good. The mournful knights/elf hybrids work really well, too. Ive had a passing interest in VCs for ages now (I even bought the Liber Necris a while ago) but what youre doing with them pretty much exactly fits my image of them, so for now I shall rest assured that someone has a firm grip of what it means to be a VC player, and look forwards to seeing them all painted up.

and for what its worth, black undercoat, I reckon.

yeah, I'm tempted to get a few more wolfen to make a varghulf pack, but I've already maxed out the points limit for my rare choices. Ugh, as cool as they are blood knights are still 55 points a model, ouch. Speaking of them however, does anyone know where i can find some painted models of gamezone's mournful knights? I've looked everywhere and can't seem find many good paint jobs of them. Despite how awesome they are no one has them or paints them.... which is kinda weird. Could it be because no one fields bloodknights? Coolmini only about 3 entries and they are pretty disappointing. Please advise I am looking for inspiration on a color scheme for them, and don't want to stuff it up.

cheers

hmmn CMON wouldve been my fist port of call, too.

In terms of colour scheme, how about looking up Cryx stuff?

alternative colour "themes" could be:

shades of undeath: lots of very pale blue-grey, contrasted with black w. minimal blue/green highlights

Blood n stuff: dark red highlighted up to RED (use blueish-purple to shade your red) and contrast this with very dark green/black bits.

Generic undead: purple, black, bone

Victorian decay: pale grey/green (think dead-thing-underwater), with dark brass bits and dark gunmetal bits. The Smog range of minis (check CMON) is very moody in this kind of style.

Personally, I think the Gamezone minis lend themselves to a slightly ethereal look, so either smoky black or wispy blue/white would work well. A strong red would contrast really well with either of these (perhaps have white horse, white cloaks, white armour, and paaaaaale pink flesh with RED eyes?) The horses white could be shaded with beige, the cloaks white could be shaded with blue-grey, and the armour's white could be shaded with green-grey. Might be interesting? The same thing but in black would work fine, too. Anyway, tis up to you :) You can paint em purple if you want :)
