Corrugated cardboard

Post by YellowStreak » Thu Oct 08, 2015 3:39 am

Hi all,

I'm after some corrugated cardboard or plasticard to use as corrugated steel on some terrain. Anyone know a good place to get some? Tried looking at Joshin, Volks and Tokyo hands, but didn't find anything suitable...

Not sure mate, did you try the craft section at a big ¥100 shop? It's a bit time/labour intensive but you could always wet some cardboard and peel off the top layer... apparently that works.

Amazon. And I don't mean buy it from amazon, I mean buy anything from amazon (the bulkier the better, I spose) and it will come in a nice big jubbly corrugated cardboard box.

Or just nick down your nearest supermarket - they give away their stock delivery boxes for free to folks who are moving house and stuff. There's usually a big stack of them either just inside the front door or round the back.

Hope that helps :)

*edit* and yes, as mikball says, you'll need to peel off the outer layer. Ask spev about it - his entire shanty town is corrugated cardboard, and I don't believe for a minute he bought it that way.

What MIJ said. My wife is always buying things off Amazon and the like and we are always swimming in boxes. Also, supermarkets. We did that when we moved.

If Tokyu Hands doesn't have it, then it's not worth having.
I have actually bought sheets of very finely corrugated card before, the card boxes from amazon and the supermarket aren't bad, but they are a pain to prep and the currugation can be quite deep. I think I got it from an arts store called セントラル画材 in Hisayaodori.

Try Loft? I'm willing to bet the 100円 shops would have something in the crafts section. I've see stuff like that in the gift wrapping section with the ribbons and cutesy gift bags and things.

As someone who has built an entire shanty town clad in faux corrugated sheets of metal, I may be of assistance.

You can pick up sheets of corrugated card (though it is thin) at the 100yen shop. Once it has been give a coating of watered down pva glue it is pretty sturdy.

You can also use regular cardboard boxes and just peel off the top layer of brown paper to reveal thur corrugation underneath. That stuff sites like rock after a coating of watered down pva.

You can get sheets of corrugated plastic at like Kahma and maybe even the 100 yen shop, too - might be easier to work with without prep.
