I can see how skype would work well for bloodbowl, what a good idea. Another friend of mine used to play the Dominion card game with his brother via Skype, also works fine given the nature of the game.
"What games can be played easily over skype" is probably worthy of a new thread at some point. I would start one if I wasn't lazy and had any more ideas to share.
I can see Ashs point though, there's nothing like the real thing. But in absence of the real thing, skype/messenger and forum rpg is better than nowt. I will keep people posted about getting a forum game of Cthulhu together, free forum space is easy to get hold of. Build it and they will come, and all that.

Quickstart Cthulhu rules are here!

http://www.chaosium.com/forms/coc_quick_start_color.pdf

The rules basically haven't changed since the first edition in any major way, and are very simple - If you have played Runequest, you'll notice the similarities, since Cthulhu is basically a stripped down version of RQ.

It's old school and rules light, intentionally so, since the idea is that the system gets out of the way and does the minimum needed - its there to facilitate the actual roleplaying and let the story progress without getting mired in complexities. This really keeps the atmosphere intact as well, which is pretty important in what is basically a horror game. If needed, you can bolt on addition rules very easily from the Chaosium BRP (Basic Roleplaying) Handbook, but it's fine as is really.

The supporting scenarios, campaigns and sourcebooks are some of the best out there, too.

Here is a mess of links that might be useful.

In case you're looking for online TRPG support, here are a few sites that might help.

http://www.obsidianportal.com/
A website that assists with running TRPGs online and at the table

http://www.rpgobjects.com/index.php?c=orpg
http://www.fantasygrounds.com/
Both are links to software designed specifically for running online games. The first is freeware, the second is payware (but looks really shiny).

I've not looked into any of them in depth, but they all seem to have value for online campaigners. YMMV.

And as an added bonus, the Basic Roleplaying (BRP) quick-starter (the same basic rules as Call of Cthulhu)
http://www.basicrps.com/core/BRP_quick_start.pdf

and a video review of Call of Cthulhu (from "Game Geeks" on Youtube)

We have two players definitely interested and 1 maybe so it's looking good.

The venue will be my place and probably run until 12pm instead of 1am. Hopefully should get something set for the end of the month or the start of next. It's likely that we will meet once a month unless we can find another venue other than my house for twice a month.

Our investigators have started their story in London in the year 1920. A new German expressionist film called Nightmare in Silence is screening at the Curzon theatre in Soho. The film has been banned in the States and other theatres in Europe for reasons unknown.
Our investigators, one expert in the occult and mysticism and one Parisian journalist have been fortunate enough to have been invited rsvp to the screening on the second night.
After enduring the film to it's end the audience manage to escape from the theatre dizzy, drained and feeling lost.
The film draws people in you see, more than one could possibly imagine.
Who made this thing? Who directed and distributed it? What happened to the actors appearing in this bizarre monstrosity. These questions must be answered!

A big thanks to Ash and Egor for taking my roleplaying virginity this evening. I must say it was a fun night, and Laird Waverley McIvor will certainly return, I hope. He's sorry he stabbed that butler in the eyeball with his paintbrush, too. He forgot he had it in his hand at the time. And besides, the Russian pulled his gun first! He started it!

Glad you enjoyed it Dave.
I'll get the next one organized for either October 8th or 22nd. Which is possible for you?

Meanwhile Laird Waverly McIvor must take a breather after enduring Nightmare In Silence and the cabinet with the circle marked on the front. What happened to the audience member who was taken to hospital?

To be continued.

One off players welcome as we are playing one shot scenarios right now not heavy campaigns.
