Yeah, even the 4400 yen for the no-frills-a'tall epub version of the SM codex had my eye going all twitchy, but then I'm kechi like that.

Re: What did you do today.
I pulled the trigger on the element games version (which was about a fiver cheaper than my usual shop-of-choice, Firestorm). I also picked up a box o them skulls wot GW love so much. I've heard good things about it. Expect more skulls on my minis from now on
Not sure how they'll look on Colette and her crew, but hey ho

And yet I have to keep justifying to people why I don't want to buy GW products anymore.me_in_japan wrote:Today I looked up pre-orders for the new DG.
UK site: Morty 85GBP, codex 25GBP, total 110GBP. Hmmn. Pricey, but he is damn shiny.
J site: Morty 19600, codex 5800, total 178.50GBP. That's a 68 quid markup.

GW have always had a steep exchange rate, I would suspect it is to 'future-proof' themselves against any unexpected changes not in their favour. Back at the start of 2008 there would have been no difference at all. It's only because the pound dropped during the financial crisis and has never really recovered that the difference is so noticeable.
Now, the fact that Morty comes in at 85gbp for what I'm guessing will be 5-6 sprues worth of plastic is pretty obscene. If you look back up the thread a page, you'll see my Saxon army. All of the minis, bases and movement trays for some 100+ models, cost much less than that. I appreciate that Saxons might not be your thing and the value we put on minis differs for a number of reasons, but to me, 85GBP gets a Hell No even before the exchange rate hoohah.
/rant.
Not much painting progress today, some undercoating and I had a play around with Vallejo's Ground Texture Pumice.

Re: What did you do today.
you make a very fair point, Prim. I guess I'm just kind of at the point where I buy so few minis that one splurge of 85 (well, 68, actually) quid on one mini that I might actually get round to painting makes more sense than the equivalent amount of cash on 50-100 minis that will just sit on the sprue forever. It's a personal choice, for sure, and I certainly couldn't fault anyone for choking on their beverage when glancing over the GW site in any currency.

I basecoated and washed my Forge World Fire Dragon today. It's been sitting gathering dust for nigh-on a decade now. It looks very different now it's red. Tomorrow, I'll look out my biggest drybrush.

Today I finished an unbroken run of reading nothing but The Wheel of Time. 14 books*, 11,564 pages. It's been so long I can barely remember ever reading anything else. Anyway. C'est fini. Owari. Done. Time to read something else, for a change
*I didn't read New Spring. I have it, but...well. Some other time, p'raps.

Re: What did you do today.
Did some "reverse edge highlighting" on the three guys left in my hellblaster squad, plus my venerable dread - the latter to break things up since painting marines is beginning to get dull, which is a Bad Sign. (A bad sign mitigated by the fact that I now have enough marines painted up that I can afford to take it slow, but still.)
I also realized I'm about out of both black ink and smoke, so I'll have to head down to the creepy doll store this week sometime for a Vallejo run.

Re: What did you do today.
Just realised that the DG codex has no options for a palanquin.

Re: What did you do today.
The index entries will always be valid - they're explicitly to allow people with legacy models like the palanquin (which isn't going to get a model in the new cycle and thus won't be in the codex) to field 'em.me_in_japan wrote:Just realised that the DG codex has no options for a palanquin.
