Well the first event was quite interesting. The end result saw TOD's gobbos win both of his matches against Prim's halfers and Jus' undead. Not bad for a bunch of weedy little gits. As I still don't have my murderers yet, I had to take my stinkers who also came out on top in both games. I would have loved to have faced TOD's gobbos to see who was the toughest, but it was not to be.
After thinking about all that I saw, I wanted to make a few comments.
1) Protect thy flanks! This is the main reason I think Jus lost vs me. He exposed his flank by sending his skellies off on a wild goose chase of my warhounds and his zombies couldn't cut it against my horsemen. Once I was through, I easily tackled his necromancer. Prim also had a hard time against TOD after TOD got into his flanks. Two units of angry gobbos against one unit of dwarfs just didn't work. Especially with dwarfs, castling up is very important, otherwise we get to pick and choose our attacks just a little too easily.
2) Magic can be very fickle. For me, magic blew pretty consistent during both games. However, I did have a turn where it blew crap leaving me with nothing to do with my mage but twiddle his bloated thumbs. Likewise Jus had some really strong phases but when it counted the most, he snake eyed it in his battle against me.
3) Trolls can be really good, but with just 3 of them, it's not worth the points. Lose one and you are down 3 attacks and the unit just can't hit hard anymore. At least 6 of them are needed to be effective.
4) At 750 points, certain armies really struggle while others are top dog too well. As it looks like we may not be getting any new players for at least a few months and in light of the, if everyone agrees I would like to up it to 1,000 points. That should give armies a bit more wiggle room without upping the price for a beginner (should any join) too much.

hmm yeah, agreed on most points there. small points games are usually a battle of the core units, so the army with the good core will usually smash the crap out of the army with the crap core. Sadly, even at 1000 points, I still don't have the points allowance needed to get the necessary upgrades to build an effective list. So I might have to give next time a miss

I'd hang in there Jus. I think your second go around against me was better. The two things that did you in was where you positioned the zombies then charged them and that you charged the warhounds as well. I knocked aside the zombies and then tore up your flank plus I got two units to charge your large unit of skeletons.
If you had held with all of your units, and moved your vargulf to somewhere near my wizard, I think you could have held firm. My berserk warriors would have smashed the zombies and you could have focused on the troll maybe taking a second one out and probably winning the combat. Also I wouldn't have been able to get your necromancer with my riders, again having to hit the zombies or skeletons. And having the vargwulf near my general/wizard would have forced me to make a huge choice, do I deal with the big threat to my wizard or do I try and take out your vampire. I would've probably chosen to take out the wolf.
