If you’re gap filling, milliput is absolutely the way to go. Its water-solubility makes it so easy to smooth out onto the base surfaces.
It sands and scrapes real nice, too.

@Prim-interesting bit of history there and dig those commandos.

I got the corner pieces of the GoMo gate painted up

And the handbow Diggachick done (well enough)
Warning to all, do NOT dullcote your figures on damp, cold days (like today......) I got this sort of spotty, white frost sort of thing happen in spots. Had to go back and touch it up. This figure is a carve-up and re-do. The face is still awful, but not as bad as it was. and the fingers are improved, but still bad. The body and loincloth and toes turned out pretty good, but there is a lot of blobby bits in the details on the wrappings and hair. My paint job and the terrible terrible picture does not help that. I can see I missed sanding off a blob of glue on the handbow, now that it's blown up too....augh.....

Oh! Almost forgot the Digadon rider. Skull! Not sure yet how to proceed with the skull yet. Some thing between Pascal Blanche and Simon Bisely. Thinking about the spear and shield she'll be carrying, too.

Love all that stuff! Grimy and rusty is very much my aesthetic, and I do love me some Pascal Blanche.

I finished up some Grimghast Reapers today (and that name is just a little on the nose, but what're you going to do?):

Giving me a very solid base for Nighthaunt in WarCry - and probably a good start for AoS if I just get some more chainrasps and a character or two... Fun models though, even if 90% of the model is basically just "ghosty wisps" plus "black shroud".

Last night, in a combination of "quarantine solidarity" and "realizing I need to slow down my painting before I run out of models / find myself in a situation where it's hard to get more", I started up a solo Blackstone Fortress campaign.

Image

It juuust about fits on my kitchen table, and the couple hours I have to myself in an evening is likewise just about time for a single expedition, so it looks set to work out. In my first expedition, I got lucky with loot and got the Secret Agenda cards for both the navigator and the ratlings, both of whom are on my team to start, and got three of four clues to do the first Stronghold run. Which just means things will go bad and turn into Space Vietnam in my next run, if previous experience is anything to go by. :D (I did get pretty lucky with traitor guardsmen whiffing their attacks this run.)

@Konrad - That fort is coming along nicely.
@ToD - Nice ghosts. Don't forget, there is nothing wrong with playing games by yourself, just don't start adding voices to each of the characters and carrying on conversations between them.

So I had a bit of free time over the past week and painted some minis.
Some Normans for Saga.

And some Japanese for Bolt Action.

:nervous laughter emoji:

Nice looking stuff! I keep thinking about collecting some Pacific Theater stuff in 15mm (it'd cost me less than 10,000 yen for two supported platoons from Peter Pig) but then I think about also collecting a whole table's worth of terrain to use them on and put the idea onto a very far back burner. Might be fun to do just as a painting project though.

I'm a fan of solo Blackstone, though I find it's a bit of a snowball effect as you get good gear., and I think you'll find that as your perma-inspired people give you an edge on generating some more currency. I probably should have switched to using the AI cards/WD hard mode rules at some point, but I did also enjoy roflstomping things with Amyllyn and Vorne

By now there's so much material for Blackstone that you'd have to find a committed group of ultrafans to get through it all, and even then it'd be at the cost of other games you want to play, so I think solo is a key part of getting the most value and enjoyment out of the game.

I'm sort of seeing what you mean, although my biggest problem so far has been resisting the urge to fudge the dice when things go south - I've mostly succeeded, but after a very lucky run on the Descent stronghold* I think I'm going to be much stricter about it moving forward. What's Blackstone without explorer death?

*For those reading along, in this scenario you have to sneak into a hidden chamber to activate the Thingamajob and get a McGuffin, and once you step foot in that chamber lots of big groups of tough enemies have a very good chance of spawning every turn. I got (completely honestly) very lucky with those rolls, sprinted in, got the McGuffin and sprinted out, and those groups didn't spawn until I was back out of said chamber and basically ready to escape the whole compound, making what could have been very difficult a complete cakewalk.

I mostly do OK with keeping myself honest, but I don't have a lot of confidence in the video replay on whether that die was cocked or not.

I mean, I'm the kind of guy who plays 4X games on "slightly easy" mode because steamrolling all the competition is fun, but still. From today my goal is to be resolutely, brutally honest!
