In an interesting twist, when our planned DnD game fell through last night (surprise work re-scheduling for our bard

) a few of us decided to try to get in some magic on the computer. I'd suggested Arena, but the other two guys had some troubles getting started. Anyway, long story short, we ended up playing a 3 player game on Magic Online.
Good points:
3 player game. Totally doable.
You get a shit ton of cards for your first buy-in (2 of every common, 1 of every uncommon in standard. That's in addition to the same 2c/1u that you get when you first sign up. Not bad for 5 bucks)
It looks like you could build a pretty fun, budget commander deck for less than (an additional) 5 bucks. Me and the guys are pretty keen to do this, and there's potential for escalation later if it goes well.
Bad points:
My eyes! They BLEEEEEED!!!! Ye gads but the interface is clunky. Just...horrible to navigate. Not just in comparison to Arena, but to...well, anything.
I can totally see how costs could spiral out of hand very, very easily. Way more so than Arena. Any kind of meta competitive deck is well out of reach for me.
If that goddamn game asks me to click "ok" one more time....
But overall, it was an interesting way to play, and the fact that it allows multiplayer games at the drop of a hat comfortably outweighs any aesthetic/design issues it has. Prim, Kbear - maybe worth considering, perhaps even purely as a way to allow you to play commander against us down here some time. If you do decide to start it, be sure to read a guide as to how to go about it. Navigating that game is akin to wandering the Maze of Ith. Many enter, but few ever leave, and those who do are eternally changed by the experience...
