I knew it! There is perhaps a very slight passing resemblance, but Radukar the wolf is by no means an Ogor. The stocky, barrel-shaped endomorph body type aethestic and overtly mongoloid features that GW has taken great strides to nail down for Ogors is clearly not present in the design of the vampire lord.

I know a lot people were really excited about the idea of an Ogre vampire. But sorry, I'm afraid I have to say that that would have been the lamest thing ever.

Imagine if the final boss of Warhammer quest was this guy. Would be just a little underwhelming. Sorry guy, he's charming in his own right, but not really vampire material. I mean, look it's the Ogor vampire's turn - roll a d6. On a 1 he fails his stupidity test and can not act..

'In life I would have cut down all of you in the span of a single breath, and picked my teeth clean with your bones. Can you imagine what I will do to you now?'
- Radukar the Wolf, Master of Ulfenkarn .
Sure doesn't sound anything like an Ogor. But kind of makes more sense thematically. Radukar the Wolf still possesses the ruthlessness, cunning, presence and fightiness of the traditional vampire lord but, GW seems to have pushed the boundaries a bit with Russian Cossack look.

I don't think a Vampire Ogre would have been a bad thing if well sculpted, but I certainly wouldn't use that model as a base.
Something more along the lines of the new Tyrant mini would have been pretty decent as a starting point.

That said I'm not liking Radukar the Wolf Cloak all that much. To me, he looks like a furry having a costume malfunction. Some of the other revealed minis look great though. Ironically I think the Ogre hero is one of the cooler looking figures in the set. :D

Still, we all have our preferences as far as models and aesthetics go I suppose. I'm just trying to decide if the minis I like are worth the price of the box. I doubt I will play the game, except maybe at the monthly events, where other people will likely have a copy.

Sure a lot of people overreacted when they found out he wasn't an Ogor but I feel like they could've gone either way. Although given GW's design philosophy, if he was an Ogor named character he would've had to have been a lot larger.

Arguing that an Ogor would make a poor villain because a typical Ogor is stereotypically stupid is an odd comparison since a human peasant would probably not be the best villain either. Either way it would've been nice to have a non-human vampire if they explored how those racial traits interacted with vampirism but neither option is inherently bad in my opinion.

It would be nice if GW did experiment a bit more in those in-between spaces though. For example, non-human Genestealer cultists, actual Gue'vesa models (Tau aligned humans), and Exodites are some examples but I guess unfortunately there is a limit to the number of models they can design and produce.

The animal cloak trend continues.

Kritza the Rat Prince.
I'm not sure if this is for AoS or WQ. I quite like it though.

Very cool! They said in the article that he has anaxe to grind with the big bad villain from cursed city so I'd say chances are this has something to do with WQ. Possibly the mystery 9th playable character whose card comes with C.L Werner's accompanying Cursed city novel, or an expansion character.

That is a real good vampire!

Game-level supposition: the references to Cursed City make me think he's a model for that rather than AoS, and his aesthetic certainly fits, but since he wasn't detailed in the core box infodump, I wouldn't be surprised if he was the big bad of the first expansion set. Dreaded Ambull came out pretty quick after the base Blackstone game if I recall correctly, so it wouldn't be unreasonable.

Ratboy there is awesome. 100 likes from me 👍🏻

Not totally sold on his floofy hair, but that’s a small head swap away from being sorted. Still, overall a stonking mini.

Also, much respec’ to the painter who decided to paint his staff as green marble. That stuff’s hard enough to do on a big floor. Must’ve been a nightmare to do on such a small curved area.

Speaking of vampires, they are really going to town with them:

"Vampires have floofy hair" certainly does seem to be a unifying design choice, and mostly I really like how un-ornamented they are in general. Very chic.

That is a surprisingly awesome figure. I can see a lot of the Inq28/Blanchitsu crowd making good use of that.

I do like that vampire. A lot.

And aye. The inq28 mob have already started fanboying.

FWIW, it would appear John Blanche is at the very least a fan. He’s pretty chatty in the inq28 groups, but these are strong words indeed:

I really like the movement in this mini. The curve from the tip of the dress all the way round to her shoulder floof is fantastico. Also, the angle of the head is very on point. Job is very much a good 'un. I need to find a reason to get/use this somehow...
