I mean, you don't even have to go that far - a tape measure will do the job if you can remember the corresponding number for each of four shapes.

(Says the guy who's going to somewhat-sheepishly buy the gauges. :?)

But yeah, I kind of wish GW's books were cheaper, and that they still offered everything in epub.

I'm imagining a happy place where the rules are fully digital and the physical books lean even harder into being pretty art pieces that live permanently on shelves.

We know they had higher ambitions for the digital stuff than they've been able to deliver. Maybe they'll get there one day 😔

Having seen some sneak peaks of the rule book in various Youtube videoes, I can say for certain that my reading speed is going to be heavily impacted until however long it takes me to get used to the shapes. Its probably not as big of an issue while measuring ranges and moving stuff though but yeah having some sort of gauge (home-made or store bought) will help a bit too.

Did they stop selling digital editions of their codexes when they released their app? That doesn't explain why their specialist games don't have digital editions though. I hope it wasn't because they were worried about piracy because doing things like this only makes it worse. Personally I just don't like buying that many paper products if I can help it which I guess is hypocritical since the miniatures are plastic and not environmentally friendly either.

80% sure I am buying the box. I need another board, I want the Ork terrain.

I think the Ork commandos are amazing.

I don't buy that much stuff right now - I have enough 40k and Fantasy to last awhile.

The games look good. I am enjoying the narrative approach the GW is taking. Crusade is great. Path to glory looks better. The videos I have seen suggest Killteam to be along the same lines.

I don't get the gauges. They seem a bit gimmicky.

Then again the books will be leaked and then full printed buy someone (in Russia) so if you have some models already - you don't really need to buy anything unless you really want to. In addition, there are many alternatives for GW models now - Buy elsewhere, unless you want to go to their tournaments you can send a message with your lack of purchase.

on Reddit

Warhammer 40K: Kill Team Octarius Price: $199.00 USD
Kill Team: Killzone Essentials Price: $35.00
Warhammer 40K: Kill Team Core Book (2021) Price: $50.00
WH40K: Kill Team TAC OPS Cards Price: $18.00
WH40K: Kill Team Compendium (2021) Price: $50.00
A quick comparison on the GW store page means that the box will be about 28000 yen or more.
The books will be in the 7000 yen range.
The essentials pack will be in the 4000 yen range and the cards around 2500 yen.
Obviously this is very rough and in no way official. :D

And a quick review I found floating round.
It's a fun game.
Very strong theme, more so than 1.0.
Mechanics are (spec ops) thematic, even in competitive.
Directly compares it to a tabletop version of XCOM
"It's more like Necromunda with 40k models"

It's not fast paced.
It's not simple.
It's not 'easy'.
It's not War Cry 40k.
It's no longer a patched up 'smaller 40k'

Octarius is a 'clear vision of the future'.
Teams are standardised, no fiddling with individual loadouts
Expects more Kill-Teams like Veterans and Kommandos to be the new normal, expect more 'SpecOps' models
Compares using 40k models in the Compendium to 'Indexes' in 8th - holdovers until everybody gets a dedicated Kill-Team box

I'm not sure it's directly related to the app since they're not doing epub for Specialist games either, but yeah, they haven't done an epub release in a while. I'd have to check the timing, though - the Loyalist Legions book for Titanicus has an epub version, but the four "grand alliance" rulebooks for WarCry don't, and I think they came out before the AT book did? That's probably mostly evidence of the right hand not knowing what the left is doing internally at GW, especially in boxed games, though.

Yeah.....I think I'll just give Stargrave a try. That's just crazy expensive.
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

Looks like the Compendium rules embargo has lifted. Goonhammer has three articles: Overview plus Imperium, Chaos, and Xenos / final thoughts, and CYRAC just has one general article (with images of all the kill team selection rules and fighter stats). (For those worrying about price, you can really get everything you'd need to put a kill team together and play with a given force off that CYRAC article...)

Consensus seems to be what was generally expected - rather "Index-y," with workmanlike lists that have less "fun" stuff than the Krieg or Kommandos do, with the expectation that the forthcoming quarterly releases will cover that in time. Still, Goonhammer does seem to be of the opinion that all the lists in there will be fun to play and pretty balanced, so that's OK.

Speaking of my own army, Death Guard, 12 wounds with a 3+ save, shrugging on 5+, rerolling 1's and 2's if you're close to an icon, ignoring wounds, with dangerous shooting and combat (since you have few enough guys you can basically give them all the equipment to buff their bolters and plague knives), and and and... well, it starts to look pretty dangerous. On the other hand, slow, and poxwalkers are not good at doing objectives.

Here's a summary of all the factions and the units they can field. Its pretty much exactly as expected and I accept the loss of not being able to mix unit types as easily as a trade for better balance. Unfortunately like Dave mentioned it is a little index-like but it should still be an improvement over the previous Kill Team thanks to the new core rules.
