*Winces* and that right there is why I'm loathe to buy books from GW. Don't get me wrong - I know plenty of folks enjoy having stashes of old lore/art etc, but that pile of books represents an order of magnitude more cash than I've spent on minis for any game over the lifespan of 9th ed 40k*. I just cant stomach spending that much and then, effectively, throwing it away.Jye Nicolson wrote: ↑Mon Jun 19, 2023 10:51 am[a huge pile o books]
I said goodbye to my 9th rules, going to sleep in the cupboard for a bit![]()
Long live downloads...
*This is due in large part to me spending my money on Magic, but even then, I don't think I've spent that much on it over the past few years. Maybe? But I don't think so.

I knew what I was getting in to, and the books are very pretty, so I didn't mind disposing of a bit of the old disposable for a nice read and a shelf decoration.
Online resources are about a thousand times more convenient and the right price so it's obvious what the smart way to go is.

The chance that when I open a drawer I'll find a primed unit of Incursors can't be very high but it's apparently never zero.

The Emperor's Children can have an Iron Father as well as an Emperor's Champion, just not at the same time.

Did a *lot* of assembly but also had a fantastic game against @devinkilp. My Tyranids vs his Drukhari, very close playing hard on the mission until a late game Shadow in the Warp and some very bad dice luck stopped the poor elves from doing the servo skull punting they needed to do.
Which was particularly fortunate for me as I was fast running out of bugs!
Awesome game, felt like it played like 10th is supposed to, and it was good practice for me playing an army with lots of tech and control pieces rather than just raw power (Lictors <3). Thanks Devin!

Re: What did you do today.
Didn't have class this morning, so I avoided my grading backlog and instead spent some quality time with the work color printer and laminator, and now I'm fully analog in the face of 10th edition.
I did get the basic prep done on a blight-hauler last night, though, and have a box of plague marines in the mail - with any luck, gaming as the impetus to paint will get me back on the old wagon after a couple months not really touching a paintbrush.

Re: What did you do today.
I didn't finish painting anything but I did get my Leviathan marines primed and started on painting them. I really want to get the Tyranids Combat Patrol done before game day too, though good priming days are starting to look few and far between.
Also got a game in, my Custodes vs my friend's Necrons. Necrons are absolutely fantastic in 10th, with the core of their army working exactly the way it should: incredibly hardy blocks of reanimating troops buffed by their nobles and crypteks. They're finally getting great use out of all those characters, and the buffs are considerable - resisting AP, Feel No Pain, penalties to wound - they start making it really hard to kill any models and they have insane capacity to bring those models back. You start wondering if *anyone* can actually get rid of a Necron block.
Trajann Valoris can.
The game really has got less lethal, but the places in which that is true do not include "within charge range of the Captain General of the Custodian Guard". He can't do it alone, he needs to be leading a unit to really do any work, but it turns out a 10 block of Custodians is a pretty good unit to be leading.
