Thank you very much Jye Nicolson for the detailed explanation of the events.
I find the whole system that you guys have really good and flexible,as I mentioned before I just need to get used to the many new rules of 10th edition.
Also to be honest I do prefer the 1000 points format rather than this new Combat Patrol system as I have many miniatures collected through the years and I miss some of the new box sets models, and finally the customisation part of the armies is for me the meat of the game.
On the other hand one very good point about the Combat Patrol system is that it’s optimal for new and returning players to get into this edition and need grasp the basics.
I wish to add that personally I don’t mind to proxy some miniatures as well if the opponent is okay with it.
Anyway I was thinking to bring either a 1000 points Dark Angels or a 1000 points World Eaters or Death Guards to begin with and if there is no problem to set some house rules like to use just a determined set of stratagems at least for the first two games just in order to don’t get overwhelmed.

Yeah no worries, we can play an intro game at whatever pace you like. Being overwhelmed is normal but like most games 40K ultimately isn't that complicated, it just has the bad habit of expecting you to deal with all the complexity all at onceBrother Severus wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 3:07 amAnyway I was thinking to bring either a 1000 points Dark Angels or a 1000 points World Eaters or Death Guards to begin with and if there is no problem to set some house rules like to use just a determined set of stratagems at least for the first two games just in order to don’t get overwhelmed.

I will be there and bringing Aeldari, hopefully mostly Aspect Warriors given I'll have more than a month to paint them.
We talked a bit about playing some narrative games of 40K, partially inspired by how great the Emperor's Children Crusade rules are.
Playing Crusade is pretty easy to start - you basically need a 1000 point roster and most of the complexity comes in as you earn XP and RP and progress along the special mechanic in your Codex. It also isn't inherently coupled to anyone else's Crusade or campaign so while it's narrative in the "these are my guys, they've earned special buffs in their adventures you can't use in Matched Play, and I have some anecdotes about the games I've played" sense, it's not a shared story of some coherent warzone.
Campaign books do provide this sort of thing - divide into teams, progress campaign phases, special missions and maps/trees etc. They're pretty cool and the latest does have a sort of light map campaign thing going on where you invest points to take and hold key territories and structures. Likewise folks have been houseruling campaigns of this kind for as long as there have been wargames. However it's tough for us to maintain the sort of regular attendance that makes a structured campaign successful (I kind of feel like we're the sort of people Crusade's decoupled play is aimed at), and while I'm happy to act as a Campaign Master I don't think my fanfic is enough to keep everyone engaged for the long stretch of real world time we'd take to get through a campaign playing once a month at most
That being said it probably would be the right time to kick one off when most Codexes are available but there's still over a year until 11th.
What do folks think?

Looks like fun. Dibs on the Rogue Trader! We played like one game like sometime within the last decade, so I don't remember the rules, but a Rogue Trader seems thematically appropriate. The Other Dave wrote: ↑Sun Mar 16, 2025 8:10 amHi all,
The April 2025 games day will be Sunday, April 27th, at e-able as we've been doing lately (link) in the big meeting room on the first floor. As usual we'll have the room from 9 to 4:30, and it'll cost 500 yen for the day if you play any games, and nothing if you just come to visit.
As we finished up Darkest Dungeon in March (with a win!) a few of us talked about starting up a Blackstone Fortress campaign in April, so I'll have that along. ATM it looks like me, Matt, konrad and tallgeese, but even moreso than DD it supports some pretty fluid dropouts and drop-ins so we may have seats available from time to time depending on who shows up. Players, we can hash out what quest we'll start with and any house rules we might want to use when we get started.
In the afternoon I'll be playing Legions Imperialis with Kondo-san, so that's my schedule full!
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

I'm glad that I could find this friendly community and I'm looking forward to meet you all next week for the event, also I checked the location and I'm familiar with the place so it will be relatively easy for me to commute there.Jye Nicolson wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 2:34 pmYeah no worries, we can play an intro game at whatever pace you like. I can come the whole day on the 27th!
I finally have all my Kill Team Things painted so if anyone want a game I shall bring them.
Barring that, it sounds like making a 1000pt Crusade roster is the order of the day. I'll have to think it over. Might end up playing marines or tau.

I talked about this before but I'm more than willing to play narrative 40k games, regardless if it's once per month, and also we might as well try it at least once or twice to see how it goes. With that in mind I'm probably going to bring some sneaky ultramarines for both narrative and 2k game.Jye Nicolson wrote: ↑Mon Mar 17, 2025 2:51 pmI will be there and bringing Aeldari, hopefully mostly Aspect Warriors given I'll have more than a month to paint them.
