Calling all new players of 40k!

For the discussion of anything related to Warhammer 40,000

As a new 40k player, which would you prefer/find more appealing?

a) a relaxed, non-competitive game where your opponent has not brought his "killiest" list, but is maybe trying out some wierd and wacky new combo. One where you can learn stuff in a non-WAAC situation. (Note: WAAC= Win At All Costs)

b) a competitive game where both players are trying to win, but where "house rules" are enforced over and above the basic 40k rules whereby experienced players are penalised heavily for making strong army builds. This is known as "comp" (short for: composition of army)

c) a competitive game where both players pick any army from their respective army books according to the rules laid out in the rulebook, and where both players try and win.

Ditto on what Jolith said.
The Nagahama Boys vs. Badruck and his Grots was quite a fun, super-relaxed event.
Where else could I put a small 6-man, fully-kitted Death Squad with jets and Chaplain against a tide of Orks, just to see how they worked?
If anything, it helped me realize that, as much as I liked the idea of a Blood Angels chapter filled with Jump Packs, it wasn't totally feasible (400 some-odd points for 7 models?), and I would be better suited with a Space Wolves army.
Trial and error, and learning from the error. It's the name of any wargame.
Warmachine/Hordes: Cygnar and Mercs (No models in Japan)
Warhammer 40K: Starting Space Wolves (Custom chapter "Wendigo Descendants")

I reckon, somewhere between option A and option B would be cool. I'm all for a fun relaxed game, but there should always be an aspect of competition or challenge in any game, otherwise it won't be a game.

thanks for the input, folks. (sorry about the previous "lads" btw, underdweller - my bad.)

It's interesting that the voting here seems to be pretty similar to the voting on the main naghammer thread. that is to say, the new guys seem to be thinking much the same as the old hands.

anyway, keep it coming, folks - the more info we get, the more we can tailor the events to your tastes :)

Hallå,

I like the idea of the relaxed game, where the winner gets the honour and some respect.
I looked at photos where some guys played serious games with lots of titans and stuff,
to be honest, the titans really turn me off, the appeal of the game kinda goes away for me.

Personally I think both polls are a bit loaded in that they only give a few options. :? I wish I knew what would get the most people to come out to an event. I also do not know if the description of the events in the polls are accurately describing what will be going on at the event. I know I must sound like a troll at this point but I really only care about the successes of the event.

Having too many options means you'll just get hundreds of individual answers. Users can post comments in the thread if there is anything more specific that they would like to see.
