really more of a human thing
eh? show me a human vehicle in the 41st millenium with anything even vaguely approching a swooshie on it.
crackling dark energy would be more my liking...
um, airbrush newbie, here. How would one go about "crackling dark energy" then, hmmn?

@spev: really, no overlap? I rather liked it. I reckon it gives it depth. I'll have a tinker and see how it looks with em moved around a bit.

@spev:

more like this? (disregard highlights and NMM on the swwoshies, as theyre wrong. I just flipped and resized the ones from before.)

Image

I'm itchin' to get spraying (I found some nice clear mask today in the local art shop...) so I might just go ahead and spray the first design I did. However, I still have another 4 raider chassis to do, so any advice y'all have will most likely be incorporated into those. I want my 3 raiders to be similarly themed, (swooshies) but the Ravagers can be a different (perhaps even crackling dark energy, if I can find out how to do it...)

@M_I_J: Swooshes would be pretty cool I reckon and IMHO pretty Eldar-like (ignore the madmiral. What would a marine fan-boy know about aesthetics? :) ). However, the colours you have in your mock-ups looks a bit too bright. Would you do them that bright in reality?

good question, pikey

nah - that was just what happened when I whacked down the layer transparency on photoshop. I'll play it by ear (by eye?) when Im actually spraying. I want the white to be pingy, but the greens/blacks will be darker. Ill keep the white to the very tips of things, i think.

right. I sprayed on two swooshies today, and it took quite a wee while. Masking is a fiddly business, and no mistake. They also ended up way, way brighter than intended, and also greener. Ho hum, learning experience and all that.

Image

I think I might pick up some clear blue and clear green and see if I cant tone down the brightness on the swooshes a little. blue + green + smoke should do the trick, i hope.

incidentally, the white spots are where I pulled off the spikes. They played merry hell with the mask, lemme tell ya...

I'm gonna put swooshie painting on hold for a wee bit till I get templates made up for the other side of the ship, and also stick together and make new templates for my other two raiders, as changing the colours for each and every half of every swooshie would take a huge amount of time and waste a lot of paint. I'm gonna production line em in the interests of economy.

So, for now, swooshies are on hold, but watch this space for more kabalites and maybe even a wych or two! :mrgreen:

Looks good, but I wouldnt go overboard with them. The two by themselves look fine. The ones you did on the PC look a little too much. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.
