Re: WIP December
Never have, but I've talked to people who did on forums and such. Seems to work all right - you just have the same problems you always do with waterslide transfers.Admiral-Badruck wrote:@TOD Have you ever used this kind of paper?

Re: WIP December
Seems like something I could try.... but t for now I will just stick with the GW stuff I have...
Question does any one know how to set decals... in a way that really sets them?

I have had the same problem. They tend to rub off after they have been applied. I have heard that varnishing them does the trick, though I am sure M_i_J will be along shortly to prove me wrong on that point.Admiral-Badruck wrote:Seems like something I could try.... but t for now I will just stick with the GW stuff I have...

Re: WIP December
I have done quite a few transfers for FOW and my Eldar and indeed one of the secrets is varnishing.
I usually do the following:
1) Pre-varnish the spot where you are going to place the transfer and let it thoroughly dry.
2) Apply the transfer as per instructions.
3) Hit it with some decal softener to smooth it out, especially if it is on a curved or uneven surface.
4) Let it dry thoroughly again.
5) Hit it with some more gloss varnish.
6) Finish it and your model off with some matt varnish.
I have also used inkjet printable transfers which work very differently from your standard jobbies. I've only done a few (my two rhinos and vindicator) but they came out quite well. With a little practice I'm sure you could get some excellent results. The paper is readily available in the specialty printer papers at any decent electronics store too.

Re: WIP December
personally, i find transfers to be a lot more "cheaty" than the oft-maligned airbrush. Why not try freehanding? Sure, its tricky at first, but i daresay that, like everything else, you get better at it with practice. I'm not much cop at freehand at all, but Im hoping to remedy that with my dark eldar...

Re: WIP December
I can see what you are talking about but for a big army to look good transfers are much better than free hand... unless you are going for the Golden Daemons i reckon they are a good time saver...

If you're trying for a Golden Daemon then you should be freehanding it.Admiral-Badruck wrote:I can see what you are talking about but for a big army to look good transfers are much better than free hand... if you are going for the Golden Daemons i reckon they are a good time saver...
I generally find them a pain to use to be honest and I especially hate trying to put them on marine shoulder pads.
