The Eternal Crusade - progress log

Post by jus » Sun Dec 05, 2010 12:40 pm

They are black, they are templar and they have just arrived through the warp ready to face the nozzle of my airbrush as well as the rest of your 40k armies. As such I'm dedicating a progress log specifically for my black Templar project.

For the moment, most models are looking very black and boring, hopefully, we'll see them airbrushed to table top glory before too long. I will periodically update this thread with my trial and error air brushing, and hopefully improve my technique and hopefully provide some useful experience to using the contraption.

Lets start with my team's mascot, the emperor's champion. Converted with massive sword from original E.C and flying chaplain, and templars upgrade kit.

The templar cross on the face plate is a recurring motif I try to have on all my crusaders. Kind of reminds of the comic book character spawn.

Was a bit over zealous with the airbrush in my hand. It was fun though

This forum always tends to cut my images off, is there any think we can do about that other than cropping the images? anyway, comments and criticism welcome, more to come!

Looking good there.

I think the photoclipping issue has arisen before. I'm not sure what causes it though. Sorry.
I always use clickable thumbnails when I want to upload an image to the site.

Dude! you actually managed to make marines look cool! and not like ultramarines in a different colour. Jolly good show!

re: clipping of pics: if we want to see your pics, we just have to right click em and select "view picture" or whatever your browser calls it. Fr example, in yon floury rhino shot, i know theres a colourful chap in the cupola and a poor schmuck dragging a crossy thing beside it.

alternatively, just resize your pics to have a max width of 600. Thats what i do...

Are the crusaders just plastic models with the templars upgrade sprue or metal figs? I know the servitors are metal.

@ MIJ : merci merci, I'm really trying to make my templars as visually distinct from the run of the mill space smurf as I can. Chains, tabards, assault marine legs for the running pose, poor shumcks carryin chapter relics. I'm trying to work out a unique pose for each individual templar, with battle honors and heraldry. There's a GW article (or at least there was) showing you what kinds of icons you can paint on to them to show which crusades they have taken part in and so on. Its very characterful and fluffy and works your creativity...but there is only so much room on the model. Damn I gotta fit that chequered motif somewhere on them too.

@prim: yup they are all plastic. its the mix of assault marine legs and templar parts that really add to the dynamic poses, I think.

If only those servitors were plastic...
I think I read the same article as you. It was a while back, but there were some nice ideas on how to make your guys stand out and show all their campaign icons.

Yep, inspired by White Dwarf :D I have a copy sitting on my shelf where some bloke painted his army the same way. Purely coincidental I'm sure ;)

@Jus - I actually have the WD you were talking about at my school. Do you want it?

Nice looking army mate. They are the coolest looking of all the chapter I reckon and you have done a good job of making them look cool.
