The one that myself and The Other Dave recommend is a liquid type glue but it comes in a hard plastic tube. You squeeze it very softly and a small drop of glue will come out. Brush on glue is fine for plastic, but for superglue it gets very messy. The toothpaste stuff usually sets in a rubbery state so its not so good for models.Seb wrote:Great, thanks for all the advice!
By the way, with superglue, do you mean the liquid glue that you kind of brush on the models or do you mean superglue as in the glue consistency one that you push out like tooth paste?

Ok, thanks.
The glue I have got is Loctite brush on glue, good for plastic models but doesn't seem to work well with small plastic pieces to metal. I would like to check out this Aron glue thing.

Re: Commander Conversion Project
superglue is any glue that consists of cyanoacrylate. Some of them are 100%, some are 85%, and i guess there are others, too.
Its the stuff that dries in seconds, and if you get too much on the model, creates a kinda whitish bloom around the gluey bit. If you get it on your fingers, be prepared to have your fingers stuck together. That stuff. Standard hobby glue, really. Not plastic glue, and not 2-part epoxy. The other one
The consistency is pretty thin/watery, but there are gel varieties around. I use a slightly gel-ish one. it comes out of a tube, like toothpaste, but not as thick.
loctite plastic glue wont work with metal models. You need superglue (cyanoacrylate). GW do sell it, but its probably the most standard hobby glue in the world. There are lots and lots of manufacturers. Aron Alfa is just the one thats most common hereabouts.

@ Prim wow I just lost heaps of hobby respect for you manPrimarch wrote:I think what he means is that any superglue is fine. Ignore the comments about high grade and low grade glue, you can buy decent superglue in most stores. I get mine from Daiei, a supermarket near my home. Its called Aron Alpha or something like that and comes in a yellow plastic tube.Admiral-Badruck wrote:superglue works for me... there are lot of types of superglue so be careful some are not as good as others... I use the low grade stuff my self.. I am sure there is good hight grade stuff her in Japan. I Just have not been bothered to use it.. the low grade stuff as worked fine up until now..![]()

that is cause you are getting the poor quality glue...Primarch wrote:The one that myself and The Other Dave recommend is a liquid type glue but it comes in a hard plastic tube. Strange, my models dont fall apart with Aron Alfa. Seems like good quality to me. What exactly does good quality glue do differently?Admiral-Badruck wrote:that is cause you are getting the poor quality glue...Primarch wrote:The one that myself and The Other Dave recommend is a liquid type glue but it comes in a hard plastic tube. Seems like I've been using the wrong glues... No wonder I didn't get my parts to stick well.
Thanks for providing very crucial information. I will go find a proper glue.

Brush on stuff (usually called Cement) is best for plasticSeb wrote:Seems like I've been using the wrong glues... No wonder I didn't get my parts to stick well.

Aron Alfa and the other squeezey glues in small tubes are best for metal
PVA (white goo) glue is good for wood and card
The thick sticky toothpaste stuff that comes in big tubes is good for rubber and flexible materials.
Find a shop with a stationery section or go to a hardware store. You'll be able to find superglue easily.

Re: Commander Conversion Project
Most glues in models stores are good glue but the stuff at the 100 yen shop and the stuff from the supermarket are just not very good for modeling they are made for doing a different job. In the states I use d some stuff called zapagap it held so tight that even with out any pins my models metal/plastic models held together even if I dropped them on the floor.. I still think it is a good idea to pin but with the right glue you may not need to pin as much..

Re: Commander Conversion Project
Could you perhaps recommend some glue in Japan? What do you use here? What brands have you tried that you think dont work very well? All of your posts have been pretty vague so far, how about some details.Admiral-Badruck wrote:Most glues in models stores are good glue but the stuff at the 100 yen shop and the stuff from the supermarket are just not very good for modeling they are made for doing a different job.
